Peter Rutherford Macro Thread

I am signed up for IMMaryland.  I want to do another IM earlier in the season.  CDA or TX are the choices. Texas is much easier travel and smaller time change, and has extra Kona slots.   The concern about Texas is its early date and the heat.  Given the difficulty of getting in outdoor riding time by mid-May and likely heat issues in Houston at that time of year, can someone from the northeast (northern New Jersey) compete effectively at that race?  Thanks.  Peter

Effectively complete it, yes. But I'm not a fan of NE athletes racing IMTX for the reasons you described. IMCDA is the better choice, in my experience, with an early May HIM in route, if you can swing it.

That said, travel, $$$ and other considerations are just as important but only you can answer those.

  • Coach Rich,  TSR request submitted.  Thanks.  Peter
  • Hey Peter,

Ok, thanks. Please submit a TSR request so we can capture this and everything else over there and I can plan it out for you formally.
  • Thanks for the update, but Ironman Maryland is Oct 3 this year, two weeks later than the plan calls for.  Also, I have been swimming 2 x week  all winter and will continue until the plans call for more, so swim camp is probably unnecessary.  Finally, if I want to work in a little more bike power focus into this schedule, how would I do that?  Thanks.  Peter

Well, I worked with the date that you gave me in your survey, I didn't catch that the date was wrong. Do this:

    • On 2/2 load up the Get Faster plan to end on 3/22.
    • On 3/9 load up the HIM plan to end on 5/17
    • On 5/25 load up the Bike Focus plan to end on 6/28
    • Do the BF plan but repeat wk5 a couple times.
    • Then on 7/13 load up the IM plan to end on IMMD
  • Great.  Thanks.  Peter
