IMFL place to stay for 2015

I will be doing IMFL next year and want to book my room. I am thinking about the boardwalk beech resort, but am concerned about the parking on Friday and Saturday. Has anyone stayed there, and I ow what the parking situation is? My wife and daughter like to shop while I am racing.

  • The condos at the Boardwalk are okay. The hotel is shitty.

Just stay at the Shores of Panama or Laketown Wharf and be done with it
  • Lake town wharf is great. Easy access to all things race related and restaurants.
  • I've stayed at Long Beach and Edgewater before, and both times we had a great ocean-front condo within a mile of the action. Shores of Panama is a closer and looked very nice, so I'll probably start my search there for '15 lodging. I've never been interested in the Boardwalk, as it's at the epicenter of IM chaos and looks like a dump. Unlike most IMs, nearby lodging is in abundant supply and cheap.
  • I stayed at a privately owned condo right on the run course (Gulf Crest, first right on the run course). Super nice place and it totally spoiled me for lodging for an ironman event. No sure if you are travelling with family/friends but this place was great for my family. I believe the guy had 2 units for rent in this building. I can PM you his info if you'd like. All in all, it was no more expensive that the crappy hotel.
  • The hotel @ Boardwalk isn't the greatest, but the location is damn convenient. The worst part is having to park a little over a quarter mile away in a gravel lot. Once you get a spot, you don't want to leave it. Having to pack your stuff in and out from there is a bitch. BUT - once you are settled, you are settled and everything race wise is right there. Except good food. Again - short walk down to Subway, Mellow Mushroom, etc.

Shores of Panama or Laketown Wharf are maybe 1/3 mile from there and you have no worries about parking.

  • Jamie,

Just signed up for the EN week trial. Live in Baton Rouge and have been doing tris for 2 years. Signed up for my first HIM in the spring 70.3 New Orleans. I would like to sign up for IMFL as my late season A race for 2015, but a personal conflict will not allow me to volunteer this year. One of the EN members suggested I contact you regarding tips on how to do the online sign-in. A foundation entry is not out of the question for me. I also understand there might be on site sign up even for those unable to volunteer that might be better chances than online. Thoughts?

If I do get signed up, I'd love info on the condo. Appreciate it.

  • I signed up twice for IMFL online and had no problem. You just have to be Johnny on the spot and be ready to go at noon.
  • Thanks for the info. I picked up a place at Laketown Warf.
Gordon, I signed up on line two years ago. You just have to be at your computer and started trying to get on at the start. I think it filled up that year in under a minute, but by hitting the register button and then the back button until it opened I was able to get in no problem.
