Sprints and Olympics?
All,
I've been following a bunch of EN athletes for about a year now and have been very impressed with their community and sense of commitment. Some of the results have been nothing short of spectacular. Clearly EN is a great product and very reasonable for what it delivers.
But I love sprints and olympics and at this point have no desire to do IMs. How good is EN for these distances? I bet one could put together decent EN training plans for people such as me, but the community is another thing I'd be investing in - in fact, probably the most important thing. It seems the community is extremely IM focused. Is there a place for me here, or will I always get hounded to "take it to the next level" (can't tell you how many times I've heard that)? The next level for me is faster and a higher place on the podium and in national rankings - not further distance. At least not at this time.
Thank you all,
Brian.

What Rachel said. Yes, most of the resources on the site are focused on half and full Ironman racing, as a reflection of the community and the products we have to create to support them. But most IM athletes are racing short course and halfs in route to their Ironman. And HIM athletes are racing short course in route as well. As pretty much everyone is doing the same set of plans through the Feb to April timeframe and from there split off into the plans they'll use to get them to their races.
More importantly, you'll get zero attitude around here about being focused on short course racing.
Thx! Very reassuring! Anyone else out there with a similar focus?
Hi Brian,
I enjoy all distances of triathlon racing. "Short" course racing is really tough a lot of fun. I like that I can get in and out, get it done without it becoming an all-encompassing undertaking. That and there are more local racing options. Last year I did the short course program for one Olympic I did and I think it it a great program. I then shifted to the HIM program for my A race, the plan wasn't that different.
I think the training will be great. There is a big focus on speed work across the distances. On community, there is a short course forum where people hangout. There are less people in the team doing this kind of racing as their primary focus, so it was a small but awesome community. There won't be the kind of big team races, but I did meet a team mate at one event last year.
Hope that helps,
David
Thx for the info!
BTW, I'm an Oregon native, displaced to so cal. My mom grew up in Corvallis and my Grandfather built most of the roads in Lane county during the depression. (Sorry all for the off topic!).
I'll look out for the short course forum!
No hounding here. Rule Number One....if we had a rule number one...would be to do what is fun.
And, if your goal is to podium, I can think of no better Team to help enable that. The OutSeason will help you get to new levels of fitness, and then the Plans will help you refine that fitness to the course you will race on. Do you ride with any groups? If so, your winter will be very different from theirs. You -- work hard, get fast. Them -- work a lot of "base miles", don't get faster. Then, in the Spring when you rejoin them....look out! Your fast self will have them wondering what PEDs you have been using.
Welcome to EN!
