Bluetooth headset for running

Any suggestions for a Bluetooth headset for running?  It will need to pair with an iphone.  I don't really care if it can also be used for phone calls.

Thanks.

  • I have a couple from plantronics (sp?). They worked well but seemed a little disposable. Each only lasted a few months. Buy the cheap ones.
  • Jay birds work pretty well. Two OS without a problem I think there is a USAT discount.
  • I agree with Robert. I have the Bluebirds Jaybird model and they have been great. No problems with heavy sweat and they actually stay in my ears very well.
  • Subscribed. Interested in this solution as well
    1. x3 on Jaybirds.  Nice balance of being able to hear the real world with good sound quality.  I've run with them in the pouring ass rain in the PNW for two full winters with zero problems.  The battery life is a bit short and once it starts to warn you that it's going it's pretty much gone.  I"ve just made a habit of plunking them on the charger after every run so I don't have to guess when I'm going to run out and be stuck in BFE with no tunes.  :-)
  • I have tried bluetooth, not the Jaybirds, and found they just didn't work for me - yet another thing to keep track of battery life just did not outweigh the benefit of not having a cord. What is your all solution to keeping up the battery charge level on these?

  • I have the Yurbuds and they are pretty good. The customer service is great though. When mine died I sent them an e-mail and they sent me a new pair and let me keep the old ones.

  • Stay away from Jabra, IMO.

craps out (recharging issue, sycning issue) at about 6-8 weeks mark. Had 3 of them replaced. They are quick to replace, no questions asked, for one year. After that, you are out of luck.

  • I have been using these for about the last year and i really like them.  They are made by a by small startup company in Boulder.  I originally bought the regular bluetooth sport headphones, but they died after a long trainer ride when sweat got inside.  When i contacted Thump they replaced them with the Xtreme version and i haven't had a problem.

There are a couple things that are deal breakers for me that i would take into consideration regardless what pair you choose.  First, they must be ear bud-like and not sit to far in the ear or be too noise canceling. In that way ambient noise is able enter for safety when running outside. Second, they must fit snug enough so that they are not jiggling around while running, but not so snug that you can't wear sunglasses or a hat.

  • I got a pair of the regular Thumps, which had great sound and connected reliably, but any workout with any significant sweating and they would crap out and constantly cut out.  Sounds like the Extreme version might make more sense and work better with sweat/rain/etc.

  • Just checked the Jaybird site. Newest earbuds are the Bluebuds X regularly $169 but $50 off for USAT. These are there newest and claim to have 8 hours use between charging. I have the older Freedom and they last only 90-120minutes. No problems with sweat. I use mine indoors so I don't have to blast the tv. I have a blue tooth signal emitter hooked to the tv.
