tire pressure and trainer

A while ago there was a post on here about optimal tire pressure (http://flocycling.blogspot.com/2014/09/flo-cycling-tire-pressure.html) and that 110-120 PSI isn't always best depending on the riders weight. I haven't given it too much thought since I didn't have any more races planned, but with the NOS starting, I was wondering if I should do this on the trainer as well. I used to inflate them to 110psi, but according to the chart I should be inflating to around 97. ( I weight around 143-145 lbs)

  • I'm your weight. I've noticed I can pop tubes if I have more than about 105 psi when on the trainer. It probably also depends on the pressure applied to the tire when setting up the trainer.

  • Wow, I'm at the other end. I have a trainer tire that says the max is 140 so I go all the way to the max. I figure it keeps me from having to pump it too frequently.
  • I set my tire pressure at 110 psi and do 3 complete turns of the crank on my KK trainer.  As long as your tire pressure is ball park normal, i think it's more important just to be consistent than it is to be at a specific tire pressure.

  • I go with consistency as well typically inflating to 120 for the trainer, road/races are different.  I might go without pumping up the tire one sessions (Tuesday to Thursday) but will usually just top up.  I don't shred tired and they don't pop so I keep doing the same thing.
