It's Patriot's Day: EN @ the Boston Marathon

Don't see a thread anywhere about ENer's @ the BM, so I thought I'd throw this in here, as more folks follow this area than the BM training group.

After 15 K, Matt Ancona (bib # 2454) is holding steady at sub 21:00 5K pace, could hit 2:50

Todd Des Fosses (8616) is holding 24:00 pace

Bill McKinney (23939) is through 5K under 30:00

Coach P (2772) has no time listed; did he not start?

Don't know who else is racing

BTW, two Americans, Ryan Hall and Meb K, are in the lead group of 10 after 25 K, along with 5 Kenyans and 3 Ethiopians.

P.S., is there a math whiz who can tell me what the odds are there would be so many doubled digits in the EN bib #s -a total of six pairs out of 17 digits?

Wow- that's one fast lady your married to!  Nice!!

Congrats to all!  Hope your quads aren't beating you up too badly today!

  • Congrats to everyone and those are some impressive times! Boston sure is a humbling course and no joke. The 16 miles of downhill make you feel like a rock star and then reality sets in very fast.

  • This was my first.

Among the many impressions of the day was the carnage at the very first hill in Newton. It didn't strike me as steep at all, and it comes with 10 miles to go. I was lucky enough to have a good day (at least all of me except my quads), but when I saw people walking there, I knew they were going to have a long rest-of-the-day. Ouch.
  • Great to know folks were tracking. I had a great day. Saw Linda and Keith at Mile 10, but somehow totally missed the EN banner (sorry P). I was running with a friend whose mother-in-law used to work at BAA and thus gets 1 spot per year, she got another from a friend and gave them to me and my buddy as a gift. It was his 1st marathon, and we've done all of our long runs together and planned to run together assuming we both held up. We went out conservatively (thus the 29ish 5K split). We got progressively faster, though, and by the time we got to Heartbreak Hill we were really blowing through the field. Our 5 fastest miles of the entire day were 21-25. Ended up with a negative split of +2:00 which felt pretty darn good. NOW I have to go out and prove I can qualify! Great seeing everyone at the meetup on Sunday!
