2015 EN 1k Swim “Bring The Pain” TT Challenge

Swimming?..... In the Outseason?...... What the...?

Yes, you read it right folks. It`s time to find that swim suit, goggles and swim cap and get yourself to the pool.

This challenge takes place January 15th - January 30th - 15 days, and It`s simple.

Head over to this spreadsheet and input your BEST 1k TT ever and your current 1k TT time (if known).  Then hit the water and knock out the 1k and then post your numbers.  This is a great baseline as you start thinking about your 2015 season!

If you have any questions, here is a link to last year’s thread where you might be able to find the answers you are looking for.

  • P.S. Pictures of you in your bathing suits is strongly encouraged. Bout time the instagram feed gets some good pics.  I will put my order in right now. I would like to see John and Jess Withrow, Dino and Mariah please. Thank you.
  • I'll play. Need to start swimming because my 11yo is starting to catch up. Start TT this week and hope for improvement.
  • @Jay, that's funny! I get passed by little kids all the time in the pool!

Alright, did my baseline 1000 yard TT tonight. The result was 17:54 for a pace of 1:47/100. When I'm in top swim shape I can crank out 4 X 1000 at 1:40/100 and still have some gas left. So, I've definitely got some work to do. Going to focus on hard 50, 100 and 200 yard intervals for the duration of the challenge and see if that helps.

I definitely will not be posting a picture of me in my bathing suit. You're welcome!
  • @Brenda- you're a trip.... NOBODY wants to see me in a suit..... but because I adore you, I'll sign up.... lets crush this team!

  • Ok- since Brenda called me out---- I think I need to extend the challenge to MIKE ROBERTS, TIM CRONK, KORI MARTINI, SCOTT MOIR, DANIELLE SANTUCCI.... y'all challenge someone too
  • I think this is my first official post on an EN forum so here goes...

Sure, I'm in.  I've been in the water once since Chattanooga so this is going to be very ugly, indeed.  And thank you, Mariah, for letting me know I'd been called out!  As far as me challenging someone else, though, I don't know anyone else in the "nation" to challenge so I'll just double-challenge myself.  Maybe that will give me the motivation I need to get back in the pool!

  • Here we go.. back in the pool! Just keep swimming, just keep swimming image
  • Yah I'm in. Gonna test on the bike today and then 1k in the pool tomorrow. Next week is the start of swim camp

  • I'm in! I should be able to get to the pool this weekend. I don't have the first clue what my best ever 1000TT time is, but this will give me a good baseline for future reference!

And.... It's JANUARY! Unless Mariah invites me to her vacation home, I'm not taking pictures of me in a bathing suit!
  • Funny thing, I set my 1000TT PR 3 weeks ago. I am half way though the Get Faster plan and I am swimming well. Hopefully will set a new PR at the end of the plan!
  • Swam my 1km TT this afternoon,. Definitely lost a little speed , but especially my arm endurance. I guess that is what swimming a handful of times over the past 3-4 months gives you. Time to get to work with swim camp starting next week.

  • Did the 1K swim today after OS core/swim cords yesterday (ran out of time Friday). I was quickly reminded of this fact 200M into swim....not very pretty but a start.

  • oops! I may have over estimated my ability to swim. Was estimating my 1000 time and was off by a bit. I have my best time carefully sealed away in the locked desk drawer on the other side of the world so I guessed on that as well. My actual time today was 18:20. Shame! I think I will use my real time vs. my imaginary time to make improvements.
  • Ugh! Shoulder injury playing paintball Sunday.  Tried to swim today and couldn't do it.  Gonna try again tomorrow.  Old age is .....
  • Did my final test today. I would have liked to have gotten a couple more focused swims in but I was not feeling great last week. The swims I did do were "high intensity" (for me). Today when I hit the pool I felt I could go a little faster than the original test but not much. I ended up going 53 seconds faster which was a pleasant surprise. I still have a bunch of work to do before I'm back to my 2013 swim fitness, but I am committed to get there at this point.
  • Did my 2nd test today. 62 seconds faster. I had 4 quality swim camp swims in between my 2 tests

  • Unable to test again in the same pool so my time is per meter vs. yards. The good news is I still improved my time.
  • I did my second swim today (so technically not January 31st but pretty close) 30" improvement but then again I hadn't done the swim cords the day before
