I would say yes if you have the time to do the full warm up. I will say that if I'm on the trainer and using our Trainer Road workouts, I don't believe the full warm up was in those workouts? I haven't used the trainer yet this fall so I can't rememeber. If I'm riding outdoors I do the warm up 99% of the time. If I'm pressed for time, I will modify to fit my needs. I personally believe that the warm up does affect the quality of your workout ahead of you. Maybe some other veterans with chime in with their thoughts.
Some use the "official" bike w/u all the time, others only when they have time and some use their own. Doesn't really matter, AS LONG AS YOU REALLY GET WARMED UP! I tend to use it consistently, unless I will not have time to get in the main set if I include the w/u. The official w/u is long (25'), but I have found it is a great w/u (although I never do it outside....I tend to w/u much faster outside for some reason). I have noticed that the main sets are more easily accomplished on the trainer if I do the official w/u. When I've not done it, I have struggled with the main set (mainly the first one).
The FTP and VO2 sets in these plans are HARD....they hurt if you're warmed up....if you're not, I find them akin to torture! I especially think the 3 minutes standing in a hard gear to be helpful in "waking up" my legs. Following with the 12' in Z3, I'm usually pretty warm and sweaty and now ready to suffer!
