Moving to Phoenix, AZ and tri friends out there?

Hello my endurance nation buds,

I will be relocating to Phoenix, AZ by the end of the summer.  Can anyone fill me in on what there is to offer for tri training in AZ.  I am signed up to race the Ironman Florida race in November but any hints to getting into Ironman AZ in 2011?  Volunteer?

Thanks

Dennis

  •  Hi Dennis-

    Phoenix tri club www.phoenixtriathlonclub.org/

     Also tri scottsdale-www.triscottsdale.org

Was never really involved in the clubs. Alot of my friends lived in Tucson, so I would drive down there alot.

I swam with Sun Devil Masters. Good program, 3 workouts/day M-F, usualy a long workout sat. They would split the workouts after w/u to a longer set or a shorter set.

I would love to move back to AZ at some point! Miss it

As far as IMAZ, was able to get in in past without problem. Volunteering is always a sure thing, plus good karma

Where are you going to be living?

Last year (2009) the race basically sold out on site the morning after. You need to make sure you line up early AM the day after with your volunteer shirt to be assured you'll make their cutoff. Coolest jobs? Early shift bike catcher or finish line catcher. For the hardy, a swim exit "lifter" (not stripper).

  • The tri community out in AZ is massive...you'll be sure to fit in! And it will be warm enough to train out there until the race!

  • thanks everyone!

I will be sure to check out the tri clubs!

I am an oncology surgeon and I took a job with St. Joseph's Medical Center.  They are aligning themselves with the Univ of AZ Cancer Center from Tuscon.  A branch of the cancer center will be build in Phoenix on the grounds of the medical center.  There is a shortage of docs from my specialty so I got an offer I could not refuse.  Bonus; train all year round!!!!

  • If you are in the market for a house, it seems like the perfect time to buy one in Phoenix. The home prices there have been decimated and it is definitely a buyer's market.
