hows everyone feeling? I'm happy with my run and swim but bike is a bit of a ? right now. I'm sticking with the JOS to the last test so I am really only riding 4.5 to 5hrs per week and thus far all of it is on the trainer. The intensity is high and I guess I feel good about my legs but I'm guessing my neck is gonna be complaining a bit. Oh well. It seems liek a relativly fast bike course. What could go wrong?
I've been on a modified plan that moves the long run from Thursday to Sunday. The problem I've been having is capsilitis in my left metatarsals. That's prevented me from running for 2-3 weeks. :-(. My bike and swim work has been solid though.
When are tall coming to town? It is a 4 hr drive for me and I am debating either getting up and heading out at 7am on Saturday or spending the sau's to come up Friday after work.
Is there no pre-race webinar for this race? I'd love to get some additional intel on the course and the best way to attack it. I didn't see anything on the EN homepage.
Last year there was a lot of chop. The first leg of the swim was slightly against the current. You have 2-3 min of warmup time as it's an in water wave start.
It's a pancake flat bike course with some minor admin in the brining. Check the wind the day before. Perhaps drive out to the San Luis pass and bike there if you'd like to feel the wind at its strongest. There is no cover there. You will need some cash for a toll.
On the run it's lots of loops. Lots. Easy on the family. If I remember right the aid stations are not exactly at the mile markers.
Good luck to you guys. I was at Moody Gardens this week for a conference, and got a 3 hour run in on your course (more or less).
The wind was pretty brutal and fierce out on the seawall where you'll do most of your biking. When I was there it was blowing from east to west, which would help you on the way out, and then be in your face on the way back in.
On the run, you'll get a little bit of wind protection by the hotel itself (landscaping/trees/bushes), and the 3 pyramids that are near the hotel. The path between mile 3.5 and 5 was windy, but most of the rest of it didn't stick out as being too bad when running.
