New rider: adjustment or needing a new seat?

I'm new to spending time on my bike, and I'm trying to figure out if I need to get a new seat or if I'm just plain adjusting to being in it.

My sitting bones feel almost bruised, but it's not an active sore - just when I'm deliberately sitting or pushing on them. I'm not walking funny or anything like that. Hasn't changed my running or walking stride.

Thursday was 55 minutes in the saddle.

Thoughts?

  • What saddle are you using?

I have only used a few saddles and with my switch to the Adamo race I had to play around with the seat tilt to stop that sore SIT bone issue. There is definitely a breaking in period with you butt but my guess is the pain you are in with pressure is too much. I got no SIT bone pain once I had it tweeked perfectly. I also had a custom bike fit with a local bike fitter.
  • It is a Specialized Dolce women's. I have not had a fit on this bike tbh. Sound like it may be part of the problem.
  • Do have access to a good bike fit person? Your SIT bones can likely get tender as you start out but mine did not once I was fit properly for me. You mention the type of saddle as Specialized women's dolce. I did not find a saddle named that but a bike named the Dolce. Is it the stock one that comes on that bike? What model Dolce do you have so I can look at the saddle that comes on it?
  • The seat says "Dolce," I bought it after I picked up the Allez. Maybe the seat has another marking I should look for?
  • Oh! And yes, there is a bike fit person about 35 minutes away; although I am not sure how reputable. I will need to ask around.
    Thanks for your responses!

Found it. Looks like a recreational saddle by the description. I do not know much about this saddle. Sorry. Maybe someone else can chime in. A bike fit and possibly feedback from the bike fitter on a good saddle for you.
  • Ah, gotcha. That would fit in with the other women's seat at this shop being comparable to a pillow with springs. Sounds like I need to get my fit done sooner than later.

    Thanks again for the feedback!
