IM Coz 2014 Week 11

Kicking monday off with another full day of rest. I felt like death getting out of bed so I left run bag and swim bag at home. I need to kick this as fast as I can and I am thinking that doing nothing, resting and minding nutrition is the best path at this point.

  • Ugh - feel better! Sounds like you'e making the right choice. Today is a recovery day for me. I was on the trainer on Saturday and had a nice run yesterday that gave me a bit more confidence. It's now taper time.
  • Just take care of yourself Jimmy - at this point, the hay is in the barn! Most important thing is to be 100% healthy race day. Stay hydrated and rest... then when you feel better, you can do a couple light interval workouts to get your heart rate up and remind your body what its job is and your fitness won't have suffered at all.

    Keep your spirits up!
  • still on the couch. stayed home from work today to rest. just looking at my bike on the trainer. My brain wants to get up and go. Then I stand up and remember why I am on the couch...
At least I will be rested up. And besides, I should be good by the weekend and that still gives me a week till race day to be truly over this.
  • ok, up off the mat and back at work.
Got an hr in on the treadmill. Took it easy on pace. and got my 40x100 pool set in - again took it easy on pace. Feeling human again.
Is it time to pack yet?
  • Glad you're feeling better!

My workouts are officially shorter now. Did an hour on the trainer yesterday, and a short run this morning. Will go for a short swim this afternoon.

I can't concentrate on work at all. I guess it's good I only have a few official work days left ...
  • Got on the trainer this morning. Power numbers are lower but it sure helped to clear my head!
  • Good job Jimmy!

Question -- just saw this on the race website under the BIKE course description: *PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR BIB NUMBER ON THEIR BACK DURING THIS SEGMENT. Is that normal?
  • No. Not normal but not unheard of either. Just gotta put it in your t1 bag and put the number n the back while on the bike.
  • I think it is a Mexico thing (whatever their version of USA Tri is)... we had to wear bib numbers on the bike in Los Cabos this year too. Just try to get it in a place that is not flapping in the wind.
  • just warmed up and did first of 3 sets in the pool, got out and left. just not caring much today. I think that I can smell the starting line.
  • lol - that was me yesterday. I went for the swim, went home to do a bike set... and set my carcass on the sofa to watch TV.
    Tapering = wonkiness :-)
  • good run this morning. 10mi kept hr low throughout. Underlines for me that yesterdays swim crack was really just mental tapering...
  • Had a good run yesterday, and did 90 minutes on the trainer today. Birthday rest day tomorrow. Started to pack, but got overwhelmed so I shut the suitcase. Will try again to get some things packed today. I don't leave until Wednesday night, so I have time...but I really want to avoid last minute panic.
  • I'm sitting in the parking lot at the gym, motivating myself for another swim. I'm going to do the 80 minute run this afternoon, and then Saturdays by tomorrow.

I will start packing today. I will also organize my packing so that my race bags are already prepared. I find that the earlier I do this, the faster it gets done. As race day approaches, the simple act of organizing my race day kit gets more and more challenging!
  • 2hrs in to today's 3:30 planned brick and my kids full on revolted. screaming at each other. Little one getting way too close to the fly wheel on the trainer. Lots of crying. I just didn't have it in me to train through it so I stopped. I guess it is the end of the season and everyone is ready for it to be over.
  • Lol - That's definitely a sign the workout is done. One week!!!
  • I'm done - just finished my last trainer ride!
Starting to get excited now... going to head off to a yoga class to stretch the bike away
