understanding workout language...

Hi Coach -

Just started my preseason plan.  Need some help decoding the workout terminology.  I am sure that I missed a key or article somewhere explaining it - can you tell me where to find it?

I am in preseason Week 2.  Here are a couple examples of what I need help with:

Tuesday workout:  MS: 8 x (2') @ 95-100%/Zone 4/Hard........I think a member answered this in Keith's post, but did not say what the 2' was.  I did 2min Z4 8 times.  The member said to do one 8 min?

Wednesday workout: "MS: EP/Zone 1/Easy to MP/Zone 2/Steady effort, include 5 x 20" Strides at end.

Coach Notes: Excellent form uphill with high knees and hands, lean into the hill and use a nice short stride to glide up the hill. Downhill focus is on nice quick turnover -- no slapping the ground! ".........Uphill?  Is part of this (or the whole thing or just the strides) supposed to be done on a grade?  Treadmill?

Thursday workout:  MS: 2 x 9' (3') @ 70-85%/Zone 2-3/Steady to Mod-Hard. MS1: Alternate 3' intervals as 90 / 100 / 110rpms. MS3: Alternate 3' intervals as 90 / 80 / 70rpms........Does this mean Main Set is a 9min Z2-3 repeated twice with 3min recovery between sets?  What is MS1?  Where is MS2 - it goes straight to MS3?

Thanks,

Ashton

  • Just found the Quick Training Guide. That answered some things.

Still need to know what MS1 and MS3 are for tomorrow's workout (Thursday) Preseason Wk2, see above. Thanks.
  • Ashton, my reply was deleted but I fixed the plan.

Tomorrow is just 2 x 9'...the MS3 is really MS2, in other words.

The Wednesday strides should be uphill, just the strides. We have guidance on how to use a treadmill on the Main OutSeason Page here: http://bit.ly/1t6uJra

And as for the bike, I believe it should read 1 x 8' (2') ...you did some bonus work there, so that's all good.

Thanks for finding all this stuff...we are on it!
  • Thanks coach. Last question for tomorrow's ride: what zone should MS1 and MS2 be in?
