IM Coz 2014 RACE WEEK BABY!!!!!

Got in the pool for a shortened version of my Monday swim. Feeling pretty good. Starting to get excited for the trip. All except the part about traveling with small children anyway.
At my Monday meeting at work, my partner asked me when I was leaving again and I told him Wednesday. Which is a day early but this way I have a full day to get organized. A few more appointments at work and I am out of here!

  • Short swim this morning. Focusing at work isn't going to well, so I'm glad that that I have Wednesday off. Leaving on a red eye flight Wednesday night, for arrival on Thursday. I'm excited, but nervous. Will be glad once I'm on the island...
  • Packed and ready to go... flying tomorrow
Took today off from training. Went for a massage then got a beer :-)
  • I don't leave until Friday morning to get there Friday late afternoon... Better late than never. So much for heat acclimating.
  • Packet pickup closes at 6:00 @John... anything I can do to help you out?
I will be on the GroupMe, or let me know if you want my mobile number
  • Thanks for the link! Have a safe trip!
  • Ryan and I arrived into Cozumel yesterday and we have a few tips for those flying into Cozumel that have never been here before: we split our nutrition in half for each of our bags for customs. When you go through customs, you put your bag through x-Ray and at the agent you hit a button for green or red to determine whether you will be searched or not. Thankfully the couple in front hit red and as searched and we were green. Even if you get searched the embassy site says you can bring food for nutritional purposes.

Also, expect to get hassled by tourist guides when you exit the passenger area. We didn't realize this at first and got a sales pitch for a rental car and some tourist events for $100 after getting the condo sales pitch. They also told us the shared taxi cost through them was double what we ended up paying. My advice is to take a hard right and go to the "official shared shuttle" stand. We paid $17.50 USD to get both of us to the Intercontinental.

Other than that, everything has been great! Safe travels everyone
  • Thanks for that info Meredith! Out of curiosity - did you declare your nutrition as "food" on the customs form?

Just saw in the athlete guide that the swim start is a wave start. I guess I better be prepared to get pummeled by all the fast men who start behind me.
  • No, we did not declare anything on the customs form. It said "food" on the form and I was planning to use the "items required for nutritional requirements" if we got searched.

There was an agent looking for fruit right after immigration. But she didn't care about my Nalgene bottle or look inside my helmet bag. Just felt around for fruit.
  • Great! Thanks so much! image
  • easy trainer session thismorning and easy "IM pace" jog walk at lunch. Feeling better every day!
Once more client appointment and I am done done done with work till after the race!
  • For those who eat applesauce race morning, the closest thing we found was those packets in the baby food section...
  • My buddy got busted for brining Chia Seeds in... they consider those an agricultural product. Lol - leave your chia at home!

  • LOL - no chia. Got it. Rich - did you get searched?

I'm an applesauce eater...so good to know about the baby food section. I'm going to try to bring some. I guess I'll see what happens...
