KMF man here....
In IM transition mode at the moment trying to be a good boy.
Going to attempt a 50K trail run on Feb 28th having never even run a stand alone marathon. Thank God for this group!
I'll be on the "balanced" plan along the way doing some biking and maybe some swimming recovery sessions in between.
I look forward to supporting this team!
Scott, share your Coach P plan if possible.....I am hoping to see something that has weekend double runs or back to back Sat/Sun runs....
SS
Tim Cronk here.... Looking to shake things up this year by doing a couple Ultra's .... Never done one before... Doing a 50k http://pembertontrail50k.blogspot.com/ on 2/14/15 on the way to a 50 miler http://www.oldpueblo50.com/ on 3/7/15.... I hacked together a plan from the EN wiki plan coach P put up and cross referencing it with the plans in the book Relentless Forward Progress....
Last year I averaged just over 30mpw running (with a few 50mile weeks) while still biking and swimming....Its been 6 weeks since my last IM... Weekly run mileage since then is 0 , 0 , 12 , 7 , 27 , 35 ..... From here I plan to build from 35mpw to 70mpw....
Look forward to chatting about training, courses , shoes , nutrition , and learning about anything ULTRA !
Done 1 50 miler back in 2009, JFK 50. Had fun and would do a 50 again just not one that is pancake flat for 27 miles.
Just thought I'd drop in and lurk a bit.
I'm planning Rocky 50 2/7/15. Just north of Houston. (Same course as Rocky Racoon 100)
First Ultra ever!
Following Relentless Forward Progress plan....50mile/week plan
Also doing 3 swims at 1500m each for recovery and 2 bikes per week 1:30 each with about 40min at 80-85%
FYI - USATF 50 Mile Road Race Championships will be in Door County, Wisconsin in October 2015 - done at the Fall 50 solo/relay race - great event!
Will post when my race report is up.
Never done one but my buddy is doing his first 50k in 2 weeks. So I was looking up ultra running videos on yourube for fun and came across videos from The Ginger Runner. Some very motivating videos. Just watched the Squamish 50/50 one on the bike. Makes me want to do one someday
Here is the one I ran. It was a trail run. Mostly single track mountain bike trails. Up and down and up and down...I didn't think it would ever end. lol

@ Sue look forward to your report.... I followed you on the dashboard.....
@MJ... been following your comments leading up till now.... I had sent you a PM about this thread!
A friend of mine in NH has done a 500 mile Ultrarun... NOT a misprint.... http://marathons.ahotu.com/event/peak-ultra-marathon#peak-ultra-marathon-500-miles Set up at a barn with a 10 mile loop in Vermont , 10 day limit , essentially doing 5 laps a day (50 miles) completes in the 10 days alloted.... He finished in 9 days and is one of only 4 ever to finish it... Went to the hospital to have his feet attended to... Total elevation gain is 120,000 vertical feet ! He has also done a Deca-Ironman .... Pretty amazing and whats even more amazing he has some RAW speed as well going around and stealing my KOM's ! NO I WILL NEVER DO THAT ! 50 miler YES maybe an Ultraman some day but never ever ever 500!
Hi all,
Not doing an ultra this year unless you count the Frozen Otter (64 mile trail "run" in January in Wisconsin). I have done two 50 milers & a hand full of 50k's.
I'm not fast like most of you people, so, a 50 miler is a 10.5 hour adventure for me. I usually do a run/walk of 10 minutes run & 2 walk throughout the whole distance. Also, most ultra runners will walk all of the up hills.
One other thing to consider is that the aid stations are sometimes more than an hour apart. So, plan accordingly with your fluids. I usually carry one hand held bottle & have another on a waist belt.
Yes, back to back long runs on the weekends plus one quality "longish" run & some speed work during the week.
here is a link to the plan that Coach P did for me. I have modified it a little, basically adjusting swim yardages based on the dates my kids stay with me.

I'm finding some really cool trails here in Tucson... Week one for me but having fun already not doing structured stuff like in the past!
Maybe a 50 miler key race needs to happen!
Race Report is finally up here!
I am noodling getting back into ultra's again. Have run 50's and 100k's. Was training for Western States 100 a few years back but twisted an ankle at a training event two months out so never happened.
After much time on the couch I ran a 7 mile trail event recently with the first 3 miles having 1,800 feet of elevation gain. Even rained heavy the night before so pretty muddy. So. Much . Fun.
Looking for some juju to get me moving again.
