Early FTP Test?

Hi Coach, to refresh your memory I came off a year of health issues and I'm now back at it.  When I originally tested my FTP I had dropped from an FTP of 250 to 140 which really surprised me.  Since I'm 5 weeks back in I'm thinking that my test results may have been artificially low due to being obviously out of shape AND looking back I think I was fighting a cold too.

My running workouts are tough and I've barely lost any Vdot during my recovery.  However, my bike workouts are challenging but not really really tough.  I feel like I have more in the tank.  I don't want to miss out on this valuable OS time by under training but also not sure if I'm jumping the gun either. What's your opinion on an early FTP test?  Thanks!

  • You're in Wk6 of the OS, correct? We have testing scheduled in Wk8 of the OS. I think you'd be fine to just swag your FTP for the next couple weeks (ie, ride at a Hard effort and see where your watts land) and then test in wk8
