Stephan Brunelle's Micro Thread

Hello Coach,

I'm good at doing what I'm told so i am trying out this micro thread.  Thanks for the seasonal plan.  I have a question about this week since I'm getting going on the 3rd week of out season.  I haven't done a lot of testing lately and I see that was asked for on week one.  Two weeks ago I tested the 8 minute test on trainerroad and had a 251 FTP result.  Not the same as a 20 minute test, but I think it reflects where I am right now.

Running wise, I'm signed up for a 5 mile YMCA winter race series.  One a month.  The first one is this friday.  Could I use that 5 mile race as a test to establish some paces for me?  I'm probably around a 7:15 pace 5k right now in my current condition.

  • Stephan, as long as you feel okay about the bike test, let's roll with it. But it's a 20' test come Week Eight!! image As for the run series, it's PERFECT. Of course conditions might prevent you from running it as fast in, say, 18 inches of snow next time around, but it's a good baseline.

Thanks for jumping in here and I hope to see more of your questions!
  • another check and double check,

going to the outseason discussion thread is difficult since others in the November group seem to be a couple weeks ahead of me on week  5 or 6.  Am I supposed to be in sync with them, or doing my own thing on week 3?

I may go ahead and do a 20 ' FTP test tonight and skip the brick.

  • Stephan, I am not sure what Rich told you to do via the Triathlon Season RoadMap™. Maybe it's worth checking that to make sure you are on track? You do have the benefit of seeing what they HAVE DONE as they forge ahead for you.
  • On the tuesday and thursday runs, they seem to be set up as bricks, but do you have an issue with me doing a light run at lunch time, and the bike at night? I don't have a treadmill, and don't feel motivated to run outside in the dark. Could always go to YMCA, but like riding my own bike in basement.
  • Stephan great to chat with you yesterday. I am all about making life easy in the OS...we can use your power of Focus and Order during the InSeason for maximum results. For now, let's keep it simple (and more fun!).
