How Do YOU Use Strava?

So I've been using Strava for 6 months or so and aside from looking at QOMs and PRs, how else do you use it for training and.or fun? I have the Premium membership so I want to make sure I'm using it to its full capacity.  One thing I've looked for but can't seem to find is how to look at all of your past efforts on a segment.

Any tips and tricks appreciated!

  • You can definitely see your past efforts. Click on any segment and there should be a button for "View my Efforts". I think you can only do this on the website, and not the phone App. Checkout the freshness and fitness section as well, you only get that as a premium member.
  • X2 what Peter said to compare past efforts on known segments... If a segment doesnt exist for what you want just build one so you can do repeats and compare... You can review your current efforts compared to your top 10 efforts on any given segment....Reading my How Important is it to stay aero thread below shows how I like to compare the same segment at different watts/positions....ON the KOM's QOM's you can also filter those based on weight or age to see where you really stack up... The power profile is another great tool with a 6 week comp and it also gives w/kg....If I do an unstructured ride (fun) but with some hard efforts and didnt bother to use the lap button to track them I like to look at the time spent in each zone for a quick idea of accumulated Z-time......

  • I use the segments feature mainly. I have been trying to create segments that map to the approximate times of the FTP intervals. E.g 12, 15 & 20 minutes. Since I am trying to get out for most of my training when possible this's provides more tangible feedback of performance. It is a bit of a mind trick to help me really push on the intervals when I know my time will be compared to other efforts by me and others. Makes doing intervals a bit more fun and meaningful for me. YMMV.
