2014 Ironman Intermediate or Ironman Minimalist plan??

Hey Coach,

Quick question - I was just looking ahead to my IM training starting after swim camp concludes next weekend.  I noticed there are two Ironman plans to load. 2014 Ironman, Intermediate and Ironman, minimalist version Intermediate, 12 weeks. Which one am I supposed to load to end on 3/8 for Ironman New Zealand?  I initially thought the former, but since I will only be doing 12 weeks, I started second guessing myself.

Thanks!

Les

  • I am surprised no one has jumped on this question. The minimalist program is new. I think the biggest difference is the long run lands on Sunday instead of Thursday. There should be some more detailed information in one of the forums or in wiki. the program was announced a couple of months ago.

The minimalist plan is the lower volume option, probably the best fit for you as you're training for such an early season IM in MN?

  • whatever you say coach - I have the time for higher volume (kind of) - but it is almost all indoors, so maybe the lower volume makes sense? I probably won't get an opportunity to race IM distance for quite a few years after this - so I want to make this one count! image

Yes, the Min IM plan would be a good fit for you, considering that you'll be doing most of the training indoors. Good luck!

  • Thanks - Head space opens today......but I have to say - that swim this morning was brutal!!! just keep swimming....just keep swimming........
