I use 5/10/20 for the first bike test. In prior years I have then done subsequent tests using the 2x20'(2') protocol since by the next test week my endurance is better and I feel that, for me at least, it is a more accurate estimate of my FTP. Sort of like doing a VDOT test in a 10k instead of a 5k.
I am going to be hanging with the JOS crowd again this year. Based on the participants, it is clearly that we are the fun bunch again this year. This will be my 3rd EN OS, but my 2nd back from a year + off. I had Rotator Cuff Surgery 3 weeks ago. I have been on the bike trainer for 2 weeks loosely following a bike focus block for the last two weeks. I ran easily on a treadmill yesterday and plan to try again tomorrow.
Once in the OS, I plan to loosely follow it as I have a hack focusing on a 50k run in March. But I like the accountability of the group. Like Al, I will be supplementing occasional ski weekends and a week in February.
Looking forward good mojo and hard work with this group!
Hi Everyone! This will be my 3rd EN Outseason. I jumped ship from the November group about a month in due to overload at work, trying to finish a graduate course, and getting sick so I'm raring to go on the 5th.
No 2015 long course plans for me. I finished IMMT 2014 which was my iron revenge from dnf'ing IMLP in 2013. 2015 brings short course fun, recharging the family and spouse approval bank account, a work travel trip to Uganda in April, a week long family reunion in July so that's enough for this year. I'd love to get back to IM in 2016 at Lake Placid to finish my business there.
My 2 big races for this season are: Quassy Oly in early June Challenge Maine OOB Oly in late August. I'll also do some local sprints as they fit into my schedule.
I'm ready for January 5 - 4th OS with EN. Taking a break this year from IMs but will do a few HIMs (Door County will be my A race) and plenty of sprints (maybe a few olys - my least fav distance). So, the focus will be on building my fast while holding some of the far fitness base from 2014.
Gonna be on and off the grid - Tour of Sufferlandria (shhh) and Ragnar Key West at the end of January/beginning of February.
To celebrate the start of the JOS and renewed focus on body comp, I'm kicking it off with a 7 day diet cleanse from a local food/fitness place so will do the bike test this weekend!
Total newbie here who will be joining you all on the 5th! I have a local HIM in June, but my big race will be IMAZ in Nov. This will be my 2nd IM (did IMAZ 2013). I am still trying to figure this whole EN thing out, so I am glad to see so many EN veterans who can hopefully show me the way. Cheers to a great 2015 season!
I'm in! Getting over a hamstring pull that I suffered while setting a 4 min PR in a 10k on Thanksgiving Day so I am hesitant about how hard to go out for testing. New Job, New House, setting up the new pain cave. Lots has changed since Race Day in October but I am looking forward to getting back to it.
Well well well. Alot of peeps in the JOS I know and some I do not.I am Steve from the Ottawa Sleeper cell Brenda's worse half and this is my 6th OS with this awesome group. I have big accountable goals for myself in the next of coming months. As an old vet to the newbie's take advantage of this time to set up your summer race schedule, it pay's off ! I am trg for Boston as my first up of the season and finishing with IM CHOO. Like to chat and reach out to the group, there is invaluable info passed around, see you on the forms !
Back at it for OS #2 and quite exited to get back at it. The OS was the best part of last years Vineman Trainup -lots of good mojo and I liked having the accountability with the daily postings of WKOs that the later blocks lacked.
AAA is a was out -IMAZ and AAa AG Nationals (OLY)
Uncertain about a June/July 70.3 vs Vegas X-Tera......
Plan to finally do some local (Tucson) OLY/Sprints
All that will depend on if surgery delays theings this spring for shoulder and or hand. likely hear more soon........
Hi everyone, I am back for year 3 with the simple (ha!) goal of improving everything (swim, bike, run and weight loss) and staying healthy! Last year was a tough year with nagging injuries which led to disappointing race results and an overall loss of fitness. Am looking forward to a fresh start and better year!
Hi Everyone! This will be my 3rd EN Outseason. I am currently struggling to get re-engaged in workouts. After KONA, I took a few weeks off, started running, got sick then had a busy December at work. I got on my bike for the first time last week. I'm in for a rude awakening this week.
No 2015 long course plans for me. Actually, I haven't signed up for anything yet. Still looking at the calendar & trying to decide what fits best with family & work. I really need to get a plan going otherwise my discipline will be impacted. One of my goals is nutrition & healthy training in 2015. KONA was the hardest race I had ever done and I really struggled with fatigue and full body tingling (nutrition shortage) so I really need to fix some things in my training & nutrition.
Currently looking for several 70.3s for this season. Timberman and/or Challenge Maine OOB are highly likely. Still looking for an earlier race to start the season. I'll also do some local sprints as they fit into my schedule.
Hello Everyone! I am new to EN. I'm still working my way around the site. -Very excited to be here though! I am coming off a season of NO racing, so everything will be slow and rusty to start -for sure! I have IMMT on my calendar for August, with a HIM in June. I have some early season trail races for fun -and to hopefully feel the love for it all again! I have A LOT to learn, so I'm happy to be part of the team. I apologize, in advance for the many questions that will come your way!
I'm in...posted in another thread too. 7th OS for me. Main focus for the winter is nordic skiing, but OS workouts provide good structure and fitness around that. Looking forward to the fun!
This will be my 2nd OS for me. I was originally slated for the NOS, with plans to race IMCdA in June, but a bike accident in October derailed those plans. I was commuting to work and my front tire caught a crack in the road. I did an end over my bars and landed on my head. I've been off the bike for three months and resumed running 6 weeks ago. My run volume is up, averaging 35 miles per week, now it's time to put some speed into it.
This year will I will be focused on recovering the fitness and strength I've lost over the past three months. Bonus goal: raise my FTP & VDOT above my pre-injury levels. I will tentatively race a HIM in July, pending how my body responds to the JOS training.
Comments
Stark, I see you have my last race photo!
Al - Thanks a bunch. Happy New Year and say hello to your beautiful wife for me!
Nemo - You look NOTHING like that! :-) Not even close.
Chris - Yep, setting up TR again tomorrow. Gonna be interesting to see where I am at. Very low expectations to start. 100 watts or bust!
Peace.
Stark
