Patterson's Micro

I'll be redoing my bike test next week. I'm a HR athlete. I'll be doing the test at home on my trainer. The instructions suggest recording distance traveled and average speed. Speed on my trainer is not accurate. Am I understanding the instructions properly?

  • You are in that we want to correlate your HR to something other than just HR. Ideally we ask folks to put their bike computer magnet on the rear wheel (so it's the same system you use on the road). At the end of the day knowing your agar went from 147 to 145 is nice but hard to tell you are fitter - now if you bike 2mphmfaster than last time (and therefore further) we'd know for sure!
  • Hi Coach, I have questions about re-working week 17 of my beginner IM plan.   I have an important family event on Saturday (same day as the big 6 hour ride).   I'm thinking about taking Friday off and doing the swim and ride Friday.   However, Thursday is the peak 3 hour run, so it's probably not a great idea to do the big ride the next day.  Another possibility might be to move the run to Sunday, and ride on Friday and Saturday.   Obviously, I'll be running on tired legs, but I think that might be a better option.   Thoughts?
  • @James Patterson --

    You know you're in the final weeks of training when you have to make adjustments!  :smile:

    I applaud you for prioritizing the family first, that is the Endurance Nation way! I think your second iteration is probably the best, and typically how we handle camp week:

    Friday = Swim + Long Ride
    Saturday = Some flavor of ride, whatever yuo can do.
    Sunday = Long Run, be mentally tough!
    Monday = OFF
    Tuesday = Plan on aerobic day to get back into it, minimal goals.

    What say you?
