He had extensive posts on this in his blog a year ago, as he was researching and preparing to write. From June - November 2013, he basically posted all of his research and initial draft. Save yourself $16, and read, starting here:
The good stuff starts in Sept 2013. The things worth noting: intense interval workouts are good for us; nutrition is important, recovery and sleep are important.

These are good for you whether you are 25 or 65. If you guys read it and see anything that old farts should do DIFFERENTLY (besides perhaps a little more recovery) then please post. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for Friel to publish something really insightful.
I have it. My husband has read it and I'm next. I've followed Joe's blog for several years. I also read Chris Carmichael's weekly newsletter (I think he's 53) and he's written quite a lot about "us". It would be great to find some of the same type of information written by women OUR age. Good stuff. We rock, face it!
I'm actually looking forward to turning fifty in June and hope to have some of my fastest years moving forward. I have been liking the high intensity intervals I have been doing in the OS. Can already see that I am slightly ahead if where I was with bike fitness las year same time. It will be interesting to see what happens with my running. It seems to be about the same pace and ability, but I don't have any nagging injuries except a little ankle soreness. I feel like the fast interval running isn't as hard on me as slow and long training.

I agree Stephen, the slow slogging was really hard on me too. I enjoy the faster running.
