Kona Travel Planning for 2015...

I know there are a few of you out there already "booked" for the big dance...so this is for you. I am in final stages of pulling together an EN Kona Experience -- 10/2 to 10/12. This will be for racers and even those of you who just might want to spend 10 days working out alongside the fittest people on the planet -- and train on the official Ironman World Championship course.  image  Wind, anyone?

You'll be on site to do the Open Water Swim Race (10/3), the local 5k and all the race week events. There will be team stuff going on at our condos and a van to ferry you about for all your swims, etc. Those of you not racing will be able to get out and do some pretty epic training as well.

If you are interested, please shoot me a personal message here on the site (envelope icon at the top) and I will keep you in the loop. The price is super reasonable (Cheaper than ocean view king at any of the hotels for the same period). There will be room for about 8 to 10 folks...going to be pretty epic.

Thanks and happy holidays.

  • I want to bump this with an endorsement ... if you are even the slightest trigeek and want a total immersion experience as you watch the Big Show, this would be an amazing destination trip.

(And looking at the arrival date, you'll be guaranteed to see P throw down a Monster Race: this will be his first Kona with more than 24 hours of total heat acclimatization!)
  • Kona during race week is our Mecca... Every serious triathlete should do a pilgrimmage/Hajj there once in his/her lifetime. Besides, we need all the EN mojo you can bring on race day.
  • @Dave, agreed on heat acclimatization. Looking forward to it. image

@Al, well put. Like many, I travelled to Kona before I qualified...it was an education. I thought I knew what it took to get there...then I was there and I realized how I had to up my game...qualified 2 years later and never looked back. Put it this way, if you spend all day watching the broadcast...and then watching it over and over....then being on site will blow your mind. image
  • P, my story exactly. 04, went during race week, volunteered to help wheelchair athlete. Then qualified in 05 for 06 race. It made a big difference in motivation, and ability to handle the race.

But even for those with no desire or speed to race there, it is, after all, the Super Bowl or Olympics of our sport, while retaining a small town feel.
  • if you have any true passion for this sport, a week in Kona during raceweek is an awesome experience. I wish you had this going on in '13 when i was there. I was in my final 30 days of NYC Marathon training, arrived on the island to do a 23 mile run on the course the next day and daily runs swims and a few bikes during the week.
I almost feel like I don't ever have to do the race for real.. "almost" :-)
