I'm from Long Beach CA as well. Chris which Marriott, Residence or Courtyard?
since Ironman is now signed up with Gatorade, does anyone know what precisely kind of liquid fuel is going to be available at Oceanside?
Terry - they usually hand out gatorade endurance formula. on the bike it is bottle with the twist cap. Not sure if it has changed since 2013 but that is the page that Ironman links to. hope this helps.

Hi Terry,
I did it last year and they served Endurance in twist off caps and GU for gels.

thanks guys,
How cold is the water going to be? Anyone wearing multiple or neoprene swimcaps? Anyone with boots on?
The water is about 63 right now and it was I believe 64 last year (which was crazy warm for that harbor). However, it has been known to be a cold race as Coach Rich has mentioned. I'd pack a few extra caps to be safe and someone else needs to respond about boots because I've never worn them and not sure if IM events even allow them.
My "cold threshold" is 62 and anything below that I get an ice cream headache.
Sorry East Coasters :-)

@Terry: I wore booties last year and felt they slowed me down, both while swimming and in T1 while trying to take them off. Entering T1, my feet were not cold, but neither were my hands and I didn't wear gloves. This year I will go without.
@Dino: do we get to touch your custom built bike?
I signed up when I was living in the Pasadena area, but am now in the process of relocating to the Salt Lake City area. That adds the challenge that like 95% of my rides will be on my Wahoo KICKR and all the lakes are too cold for open water swimming. However, it does give me the benefit of training at altitude.
I'm treating this as a B-race on my way to St George and Boulder 70.3s. It should be a nice early season kick in the balls.
I'm doing the Rose Bowl Half Marathon this coming weekend to dust the cob webs off.
I'll be coming in from Detroit for the race. Having a little swim, bike, run fun on our vacation, followed by some golf! Looking forward to warmer weather and some sun. Since all of my training has been indoors, I'm just hoping that I remember how to ride my bike when it's actually moving! Looking forward to meeting everyone at dinner Friday night or after the race on Saturday!
It became clear that something had to give, so out goes #4. I still have St George and Boulder to look forward to. Hope to see some of you out there.
I have a reservation at the Oceanside Marina Inn on Friday and Saturday. It's a short walk to transition, at least according to the map. Anyone interested in taking it? Let me know ASAP as I'll cancel it tonight.
