  • This will be my first HIM. I started training for triathlon in October 2010. I did a sprint race in April 2011 and June 2011. Also did my own personal olympic distance in September (I missed sign up for the one I wanted to do). I did the same sprint in April 2012 as I had done in the previous year. Outside of triathlon, I also did the Atlanta Half marathon in November 2011 and the Tough Mudder in February 2012.

After the sprint in 2012, I continued training but really dropped off. I did not sign up for any other races in 2012 or 2013. By 2014, my physical exercise had gone back to almost zero. In September of 2014, I had enough and started back. In those last few months, I did more biking and running than I had done in all of 2012 and 2013 combined and almost as much swimming. Now I just needed to sign up for something so I decided to do what I had wanted to do before, Augusta 70.3. I needed a training plan. I had pretty much self coached myself in 2010-2011 with Beginner Triathlete and a lot of reading in the forums. However, when I tried to apply what I had learned to the HIM distance, nothing seemed to work. I remembered that I had seen Endurance Nation during all of my research so I decided to give it a try. I am glad that I did. It has really helped me to understand this training thing and it has been working.

Other races this year. I did the same sprint in April. Did not do as good as I had hoped. Several reasons for that. I have written most of my race report but I have not posted it yet. I will do that soon. I have another Sprint on July 18 in Columbus, GA and an Olympic on August 8th at Richard Russell State Park in Georgia. Looking forward to those as they should be a good test of where I am at.

My goal for Augusta is simple, to finish. Whatever my time is I will be happy with it. I am just super excited to be back in the game.

If you are training, we only have 12 weeks to go after this week. I am doing my big tri day tomorrow so that I can spend time with the family Saturday. I am going to LA Fitness early in the morning to swim. I am taking my bike with me and riding it back to the house. I have my course mapped out already, just a little over 38 miles. Then I will do my run. I have done a sweat test (I sweat a lot) and I have calculated my nutrition and hydration needs. I have been using my training to test the calculations out and it seems to be working. Tomorrow will be the big test. Looking forward to it.

So who else out there is signed up for the race? Will we have a race captain? Has anyone volunteered?

Looking forward to hearing from some other folks!!
  • OK, Let's get this party started and see who is "IN" for the 2015 Augusta 70.3. This will be my first time racing at this venue and I am looking forward to it. The terrain should suit my strengths and hope for a solid performance. This year has been a challenge to remain focused on training as my travel schedule has increased drastically but I will be ready.

I am an EN Ambassador living in Atlanta, have two 140.6's and numerous 70.3's, Olympics & Sprints in the books. I think the 70.3's are my favorite because they are long enough to challenge yourself and the training plans are not too overwhelming.

This Thursday, I am heading to Chattanooga for the IM Chattanooga training camp for some forced time in the saddle, distance riding/running and camaraderie with fellow campers.

Brenda, where is the spreadsheet for those EN members who will be in Augusta?

    See you in Augusta!
  • Bill,  I have been a little behind in posting on the EN Forum but wanted to reach out and let you know that at least two ENer's will be racing Augusta 70.3 in September.  I look forward to meeting you there.  If you can try posting a few things on this string and see if we can get an idea of who else will be there.

  • Hey everyone! Scott Moir here, from Roanoke, Virginia. I've been with EN since January of this year and I'll be racing Augusta 70.3 for the first time in September. Long course race history: Pumpkinman Halfmax - 2009; Beach2Battleship 140.6 - 2010; White Lake Half - 2011; IMTX - 2012; Raleigh 70.3, IMLP, and 70.3 World Championship - 2013; Rev3 Williamsburg Half and IMCHOO - 2014; and Challenge Knoxville Half - 2015.

Looks like most other ENers will be racing Chatty this day so we'll have to do our best to represent in Augusta!
  • Great to see a couple of others will be ding this one. Like Scott, I figured most everyone would be racing Chattanooga. Anyone else racing Augusta this year??
  • I will also be racing Augusta. Look forward to see everyone there.
  • Hi everybody. This will be my first time racing the Augusta 70.3 after hearing most of my friends rave about it for the last few years. I will be driving up with my better half from Miami, FL and hoping to race in some cooler temperatures. My IM history consists of three 140.6 races (IMLP, IMAZ and IMMT) and eight 70.3s over the last 5 years. I am looking forward to meeting more of my EN teammates.

As a side note, we are thinking of driving over the Chattanooga Sunday night (its a 4 hour drive) after the race to sign up for the 2016 race on-site. That may be more of an adventure than the actual race.
  • Mario,  I will have to verify, but I think you can sign up for IMCHOO from Augusta without having to drive the 4.5 hours north.  I look forward to seeing you in Augusta next month.

    Jim

  • I did Augusta last year and they had that option at registration
  • Awesome to see there will be other ENr's on the course.  Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Looks like we have Jim Hogan, Scott Moir, Jamie Fields, Mario Arbesu, and myself.

I know everyone knows where this is but here is a link to the Team Event Sheet for Augusta.

It looks like everyone has a lot of race experience at IM/HIM.  Not sure what everyone is projecting for finish times.  Me, just want to finish.  If I come in under 8 hours I will be really happy.

  • Thanks for tip guys. I just heard back from them and they have not come to a decision yet but apparently its still on the table regarding IMChoo registration. I post an update when they get back to me.

    Fingers crossed over here.
  • Ido not think it will sellout on Monday. If you login at noon, you'll get in. That's my prediction
  • 1st 70.3 and 1st IM 70.3.

  • Coming up with my local Ticking Tri Bomb group.  So, will be hanging with them throughout the weekend.  Aside from the 5 pm Saturday dinner, what's the EN weekend schedule?

btw, Sunday night changed my commitment to the dinner from TBD to No, then this morning to Yes.

  • Are we still doing Frog Hallow Tavern @ 5?

  • I am heading that way. Not sure about anyone else.
  • Sorry Guys. Somehow, missed so many messages and such a busy weekend, I am going to miss the Frog Hollow Tavern meeting. If You have your wearing your EN Kit, I'll find you at some point tomorrow. BIB #2829 and swim start at 8:54...if you are near the finish line around 2:30, you'll see me moving fast.
  • Mario,  Great to meet you and your gang from Florida.  Did you make it to Chattanooga and register for IMCHOO?  Safe travels.

    Jim

  • Jim,
Its official. We made the drive to Chattanooga. There was no line whatsoever to sign up and even now the race is still open for registration.....lol. Funny thing was that we met another couple in Chattanooga that also raced in Augusta and drove over to register for IMCHoo. So at least I am not the only crazy one and at least we were able to check out the race venue (which looks really nice).

Great seeing you out there. I hope we get another chance to race together.
