  • Hi Texas 70.3 Team

I'm 53 yers old and have been doing triathlons since 2001. I have done multiple events at all distances. This will be my first Texas Half and my first following the Endurance Nation program. I just joined in December and I like what I've seen and trained so far. Hope to go under 5hrs.

Great to be part of a larger community of atheletes.

    Ramsay

Races planned so far in 2015: Around the Bay 30K, Texas 70.3, Ironman Mont Tremblant
  • On race day I'll be 35. Last year was my first 70.3. My goal was just to finish and I did. I've since wondered if 7:41:08 is the slowest EN 70.3 time

This year I'm aiming to cut one hour off of my time. I think its quite possible as I'll be lighter and have more of a base. Plus, I felt like I really didn't race last year - I held back a lot to make sure that I would finish.

I'll be staying in a rented house or condo like I did last year.

  • Hi Folks,
I'm looking to do this race for the first time this year. I'm dealing with PF in my left foot and I'm wanting to delay signing up a bit until I know I'll be able to train properly. Anyone know how fast this race sells out?

    Many Thanks!
    Erik
  • Looking forward to Galveston!! This was going to be a test race for IM Texas, but I didn't register for it in time and now Galveston is going to be my focus.

I've raced this several times, but it has been 3 years since I've been back and looking forward to some salt water action.
  • Hi Guys,

I'm looking forward to seeing you on the course.  This is my 1st race for 2015.

  • Hello I'm Anthony. This will be my 2nd time to race Galveston ( I use the word race loosely as the first time was an exercise in survival and determination). I was really on the road to a better tri life until last year when my knee got hurt and required surgery. I put on a lot of self pity weight and now I am paying the dues. I hope to be in good enough shape to go less than 7 hours at Galveston. Sad, huh? At least now I can actually train which is a huge improvement over this time last year. Galveston will be my 2nd tri this year after a local sprint in March. I'm using Galveston and some local Olympics to get ready for IMFL in November where my only goal is survival and finishing.

  • Might want to sticky this one instead of the 2014 thread.
  • Hey guys! Late to the party here! David Leventhal here - 41 year old from Dallas, TX. I've done on IM and this will be my 4th 70.3 distance race. My plan is to hit the three Texas 70.3 distance races this year - starting in Galveston, then Buffalo Springs in June & Austin in November (though I swore I'd never do Austin again!)

I've been wrestling with calf cramping in my right leg. I'm getting ART 2x per week until the race but having to avoid running. So....I'm doubling down on my bike and swim stuff and am hoping that my overall fitness will carry me through. Might be an epic disaster...but then again....it might not!!

    Looking forward to seeing everyone!
  • I'm in a similar boat. I can't run until my inflammation goes down in my foot. It's all about setting the right race day goals.

Welcome to the group. It'll be nice to race with you again.
  • Sounds like a few of us will be testing ourselves on the run portion...  With the nasty winter we've had here in Ontario I've been stuck on a treadmill for most of it... And I can't seem to wrap my head around a long steady run on that device... Intervals/hill repeats no problem... LSD and I lose it...  But its the first race of the season so take it as it comes!!!

Question - I seem to recall someone recommending a place that we can get in a swim practice that is near the race site? I understand there's no swimming from the actual race start beach prior to race day but we're hoping to find someplace to go and test out the wetsuits etc. on Friday morning...   Happy Friday everyone!!

  • It's next to the Flamingo Restaurant. Check out the race report I wrote last year. .
  • That's the one - thanks!!!

  • I will be in for this year's 70.3. This will be my 2nd 70.3 and I'm also signed up for the 70.3 at Buffalo Springs as well. Training has been going well and I got the opportunity to spend the week in Galveston during Spring Break to train on the course. I'm looking forward to the race and hoping to PR in each of the disciplines. I finished Kansas 70.3 last year in 6:51 so I think there's room for a lot of improvement. See you all soon!
  • I'll be out cheering y'all on....  No racing for me - I had emergency gall bladder surgery 9 days ago so am still in recovery.... BOOO!!!! But I am looking forward to the trip and cheering everyone on!!!!

  • Ouch! Wishing you a speedy recovery
  • Thanks! The hardest part is my brain thinks I could still "race" but I'm not sure my body would agree... I'm heading to the pool tonight so we'll see how it goes...  I'm not some crazy and I know its just a race but all those hours sweating in my basement this winter!!   I see my surgeon on Friday for my follow up but I do already have my "IM Insurance" forms completed to send in and get my entry fee back... Oh well - life goes on and we keep moving forward!!

  • Well i'm all clear from the surgeon to "participate" in Galveston but not RACE RACE.... WOOT WOOT!!! I knew there was a reason I didn't send the refund forms back  yet!!! So I won't be burning up the run course but I'll be grinning from ear to ear!!!!! See ya'll there!!!!!

  • Eva - that's great news! Congrats on getting the green light to participate! Look forward to seeing you get your grin on!!
  • Nice. Be sure not to risk your season and keep to the "participate" directive.
