  • Oh come now, there has to be other folks besides me registered! I've done the FL 70.3 three times, but all on the old Disney course. I'm doing the San Juan 70.3 a month earlier trying to qualify for Austria and Florida is a back-up. If I make it at San Juan this will be a backyard training race for me. Hope to see some EN colors in the race.
  • Paul, my wife and I will be racing as well. 2nd time for her, 3rd time on the course for me. Hopefully they will have finished their construction this year. Made for a very crowded part of the run last year. Sidewalk construction on the only hill of the course.
  • WTC has hosted a course preview the past 2 years including swim set-up in advance of the race. If I don't have a conflict I'll do that this year and find out what kind of shape it's in. Might even be wetsuit legal in mid-March. Hope so, cause I have a 'shorty' for the borderline legal swims.
  • Hey guys! Like Jan said I will be doing this race for the 2nd time. I was unable to participate in this race the first time I registered due to a hip injury. I completed my goal last year of finishing- but suffered on the run due to poor nutrition. My goal this year is to come back strong, beat my time from last year and have a successful run. And I agree, fingers cross the construction on the run is complete this year image
  • Hey everyone.  Just signed up!  I've done the race 3 times before but all at the old location in WDW.  Looking forward to a great race.

  • Hot damn, rematch!
  • Paul, figured that would be your reaction!  Any hills down there in your neck of the woods?  If not, I'm afraid you've got the edge this time.

  • Tom - Although I haven't done this course I know there are a few rollers, but compared to Lake Stevens you probably won't notice them.
  • The rollers on the bike are not so bad, but be careful not to burn yourself out. Last year I rode the course entirely based on HR and applied the EN climbing technique. I had people blast by me on the small climbs, but it caught up to them later on. The downhills are fast, especially after the 3rd 'peak' , it is followed by a 90 deg right turn right when you're at top speed.

Here is the link to my bike file: http://tpks.ws/bo2D

The run is 3 loops and has 3 climbs in the beginning of every loop. Especially the last 2 ups on every lap are steep and by the third time you do them , your legs will be screeming

And of course, don't forget about the M shaped swim . http://tpks.ws/rDqh

  • Thanks Jan.  Helpful to see the elevation profiles.

  • I'm in as well although a bit jealous now I apparently missed the disney version.
First time for me and 3rd 70.3 overall so just aiming to improve my best time partly due to my new 2014+NOS fitness and partly due to what looks like a faster course.
  • @ David - although the Disney swim was far superior to the current M shaped course in tiny Lake Eva, I don't think anyone misses the 3 loop death march through the woods and along the ditch that was the hallmark of the Disney run course. It was 2/3rds cross country and just a miserable route -- but good views the pine trees on Disney property. However, you could walk to the start from the Disney Wilderness Lodge. My family misses that!!
  • I see from a post from Paul in the dashboard and a thread by David that there must have been an email sent out to those of us doing Florida 70.3. I didn't receive an email and was wondering how I make sure I get on that email list.
  • Hi Tom - relatively new here so still figuring everything out but I believe you need to go to the Groups page and "Join" for your race. It's separate from posting in this thread.

  • Got it. Thanks.
  • Hey all, next week will be my second of 2 weeks of swim camp and then I will be transitioning into HIM plan. Was just wondering when everyone else is transitioning into the HIM plan?

  • Hey Jan - I'm on the official NOS timetable so Swim Camp starting 2/2, then picking up the HIM plan leading into FL.
Will be good to have some virtual company for those workouts ... trying to figure how best to fit the extra hrs into life, especially while it's still cold and dark out in the morning!
  • I'm on the same timetable as David. Think we join the HIM plan at week 13 mid February.
  • I'm already on the HIM plan but that's because I have San Juan 70.3 a month earlier. But I'm also hacking it to death. I just completed the January Volume Camp with Coach Patrick and intend to put myself through my own 4 day Hell Camp 13-16 Feb. After San Juan, I will repeat the last 4 weeks of the HIM plan for Florida.
  • Can we "PIN" this thread and UNPIN the 2014 version ?
