I am hoping someone else locally can provide suggestions on good places to do training rides. I did my first full IM in 2013 @ Cozumel, but was unable to do Chattanooga last year due to relocation to Colorado during the critical training time. I am ready to go, just have to learn how to go downhill on a Tri bike I have done 6 70.3 races, but I am sure this one will be a new more challenging experience for me.
Hello Paula,
This will be #4 for me doing this race. It's a very fast course and with the change in scheduling from the first week of august to mid june, the heat is much less of a factor. As far as the swim goes it, it's usually a very comfortable swim (upper 60's) and the swim for the full is borderline wetsuit legal - it's that warm!
As for training rides, the 70.3 course is a pretty good ride. The shoulders are large and it's very well traveled especially on weekends. In fact anywhere around boulder is good for training. A little closer to your neck of the woods, a lot of triathletes train around Deer Creek, south and west of Chatfield reservoir. I do most of my training pretty far to the south and east of denver (Elizabeth/Franktown)just because it's close to home and the roads tend to be less traveled.
I also did the Boulder full IM last year and will be doing it again in 2015 so any questions just ask away!
Paula, I am in Littleton, and there are some great rides in the foothills I could show or tell you about.
Looking forward to this!
Thanks Stephanie, that sounds great I appreciate the offer. I have not been focused on training but today is my jumping off point. I have trying to get settled, doing some hiking and cross country skiing, but time to stop playing around. I have my pain cave set up (which I never had room for before, so I have no excuses). I have consistently doing Pilates which is important for me due to my screwed up back. Unfortunately the classes here are not as intense as what I am used to, so trying to get the instructors to kick my butt more. I welcome any and all recommendations you have!
Thanks Mark, I am sure I will have many questions for you... So you think upper 60's is comfortable...lol, I feel even more wimpy now. Like I said I will have to find a way to suck it up!
Thanks for the location for training recommendations I will definitely do some recon of those areas. Good thing shoveling snow is good for the core, I have been doing a lot of that lately!
Did you guys see the post by Coach Rich about the Crucible - Colorado Camp? It comes right on the heels of this race... but will be great prep for IM Boulder! I'm in!
I'll be coming over from SLC. I've never been to Boulder before. Looking forward to the race and exploring a new part of the country.
Awesome Gabe, welcome aboard. I hope you have a couple extra days to check out the area, it's a lot of fun.
Hey folks we need some more energetic souls for the Crucible Camp! I know it comes on the heels of this race, but would be great for anyone doing IM Boulder or another race later in the season!!

I am heading to San Diego for an unexpected business trip, no swimming or biking for me until Thursday... hoping to squeeze in some running. How is everyone doing with Training?
I just switched my road bike tires to 700 x 25c and I like them for downhills and riding in the grit on the roads. Does anyone use the 25c's for their tri bike for training and/or racing?
I recently switched to 25's over the 23's and noticed a much better ride on my tri bike....using conti gatorskins
How is the asphalt condition on the 70.3 bike course?
Update from the race director on the logistics for the 70.3 and sprint taking place on the same day. Also, note a change to the run course - should make for a faster run by taking out the 2 hills you previously needed to run twice.

@Eric - the road conditions in general are very good. You'll be fine with either 23's or 25's.
Thanks Mark good info!
I had a nightmare from hell week, last minute business trip, no training and stuck in the airport on sunday for 9 hours. I got home at 3am Thursday morning.
What training plan is everyone following? I still have to follow up on how to fold the 70.3 into the Boulder 140.6 with the compressed timeline. I hope everyone's training is going well, time to kick it into high gear!
