  • Looks like I'm the first this year to sign in and say, "Hi". This year will be my first year participating in Eagleman. I'm trying to start to work my way through the IM circuit, and MD is fairly close to NY. This year I've only signed up for a half so far, after taking time off for my knee to recover. I'm a little nervous about the volume of a full IM this year, so I'm going to focus on some short course and fun races.
  • Hello All, this will be my 3rd Eagleman... I am super excited to melt on the run again. image

FYI, i still do not have a place to stay. so if anyone has a spare bedroom or needs a roommate for a night, just let me know.

  • Hello All, This will be my 2nd HIM for 2015 and my "A" race in triathlon. Combining this as a family visit to the in-laws who live in central MD so hoping to have a good cheering section (wife and 5 kids) on race day. My goal is simply to finish strong and hopefully to improve over previous swims significantly.

  • Hello all
Eagleman will be the first time I come to MD so I am pretty excited about it.
The one thing I am not excited about is the lack of places to stay.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I will be traveling with my wife and two minions, I mean kids.
  • Carlos, my recommendation is to stay at the Comfort Inn. It is a great hotel, and rooms typically open up a week or two before the race. I have stayed there twice and they place is clean and safe.

DO NOT STAY AT AMERICAN BEST VALUE!!!! That hotel is the scariest place i have ever been too... Pretty sure there was a dead body once in the room i was scheduled to stay in. I am about 99% sure the place offers rooms by the hour.
  • I'm staying at the holiday inn express in Delmar about 30 mins away from the race venue. That was the closest decent hotel I could find with two rooms. I'm traveling with my wife and five kiddos.

  • Eagleman will be my first HIM.

Jonathan is 100% correct on the AMERICAN BEST VALUE …. DO NOT STAY THERE!!! I would rather sleep in my car than ever stay there again.

I did the IMMD last year and returning this year to do the HIM, I know it’s a little backwards but it’s the way I like it.

  • I am staying at a Marriott about a half hour away. I couldn't seem to find anything local that was decent.
  • Who is getting excited!?
  • Does anyone know if the restaurant where the team dinner is being held is vegan friendly? Thanks!
  • @Terra, Here is a link to the menu from the spreadsheet Brenda sent out.Β http://thehighspotgastropub.com/Β

    HTH,

    Dave

  • I just hung up with them. I called because I did look at the link Brenda posted and it didn't appear to be vegan friendly. Apparently the menu has nothing vegan on it - but they are willing to accommodate. She made a note in the book for the chef and said that they would come up with something for us (my boyfriend and me).
  • @Carlos - I am getting anxious (as always) and very excited. This will be my first Eagleman. It will be great to see you again. This time last year we were doing the Placid training camp. Right?
  • Few questions;
Is there a sign up sheet for the dinner? i haven't been able to find the link
Do we have a head count or list EN participants for the race?
Do you know if there will be ice on the run coarse?
  • Does anyone know what the water temp is in the Choptank??
  • @Bryan - I deleted the email from Brenda, but she sent one out to everyone about the dinner... Which is really a lunch at noon the day before. That also has a list of some of the team members doing the race or all of them. I think there is somewhere around 10 of us. I'm sure they have ice on the run course.

@Carol - I read somewhere that the water is somewhere in the 60's in the Choptank.
  • I have been looking at the water temps on NOAA's website: http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/ofs/ofs_station.shtml?stname=Cambridge&ofs=cb&stnid=8571892&subdomain=0

I am not sure how accurate this is.
  • Very late to the party. My wife is swimming across the Chesapeake Bay the day of the race so I decided to sign up as I would be nearby. Hope to see everyone at the race. This will be my third Eagleman. I tolerate the swim (it is fine I am just a slow swimmer). I love the bike course. I survive the run course.
  • OK, so we have a few days left until race day. Is everyone ready? Does anyone need any additional advice? Address an concerns?

I am excited for this race because it will be nice to spend the day outside in the water, on the bike, and in my running shoes. image See you all saturday.
  • I'm hitting the road tomorrow morning to drive up (with stops in Harrisonburg, VA and in Bryn Mawr, PA and then back down to MD.) Looking forward to meeting everyone at lunch on Saturday. Travel safely all...
  • Looks like it will be over 76.1 in the river. Oh well. That is Eagleman:-) I agree Jonathan, it's gonna be a nice day:-) Thanks for the link. Although I wish Terra was right about the temp:-) See you all Saturday!! WooHoo!!
