My goal? Set myself up a little better for my run this year.
Looking forward to seeing everyone!
This is a B race for me leading up to IM Canada. Started the NOV OS so hopefully should be in good shape come race day though the race may be my first open water swim of the year given where I live. That was the case at Wildflower last year and that worked out ok.
Rumor has it that Coach Rich is also racing...I've heard something about Carne Asada when he races so looking forward to that. Our group is planning some hiking in Zion on Sunday before returning home thru Vegas.
Look forward to meeting all the other EN members at the race
I am also planning on St. George and live in Long Beach CA. If anyone from my area wants to plan on traveling together please let me know!
I am on the Coach Rich plan and using St. George as a milestone in the build up to Wisconsin. I am from the LA area as well so this is a fairly local race. I got myself mixed up in a bit of a rivalry with some local tri-guys and there is dinner on the line. This race will be serious business for me!
This is my 3rd year in EN and it will be my 3rd HIM. The plan is to race a bit closer to the edge and push my limits! See you guys there!
IN!! And looking forward to it! I really enjoyed "riding" the bike course on my moto, with a ref, last year during the race. Seemed like a fun bike course on which a smart EN athlete can excel.
Jason, Joanne and I are planning on staying Sunday as well and would be up for some hiking in Zion. Probably some LA locals will be with us.
I haven't raced against my locals in years and years so I'm looking to lay it down, hard, in May . My goal is to have a strong run. The IMSG run course is legit hilly.
Checking my calendar and I'll probably go out there the weekend of March 20th to preview and train on the course. The format I've used for many Wildflower training camps is:
Hit me up if you're vacation in UT after the race. I'm a southern UT road trip expert
After my trip to the race last year:
I look forward to this race every year! I’ve competed in the St. George since 2011 all the way back to when it was a full Ironman. I have some good memories and crazy stories from years past! I grew up in this area and am always drawn back to it!
I’m feeling stronger and faster than ever so… 3rd time’s a charm for me! I’ve got my sights set on achieving a new pr.
Can’t wait to meet you all!
Looking forward to meeting more of the EN family.
Has anyone booked their hotel for St. George? The IM website lists hotels in the area, however there's no information on distance to start/finish? Anyone have any thoughts on the best hotel logistically?? Thank you!
IMSG is point to point, with different T1 and T2/Finish locations. You'll take a shuttle bus from T2/Finish area to the start on race morning. Everything happens downtown, it's a pretty small town, so anything "in" St. George basically works. I also need to hook up lodging...
I just booked Best Western Coral! Thanks !!
Looking forward to meet you all at St. George this year!!!
Coach R, let us know how it goes in march (mostly curious about your bike gearing selection. My guess is you will go 50/34 - 11/23???),.
It will be the weekend before IMCali so probably no Dino. He's also not racing IMSG.
@Juan: definitely not 23-11 course. I will probably ride my standard compact, 26-11 setup. Snow Canyon gradually climbs up to an 8-9% pitch so you'll want the gears.
@Dana - I'll have my travel agent (Mrs Coach Rich) see if there's a room in the BW
I'm also doing Oceanside, so I won't be able to hammer it too hard if I come down. But I'm treating Oceanside as a B-race to kick start the season. 95% of my riding will be on the trainer and it's doubtful that I'll get an open water swim in because the lakes up here are in the 40s now. So I have no expectations for a PR.
My schedule is a little in flux in March because that's when we'll be moving the household from Monrovia to the SLC area.
Just saw this 2015 check-in thread. This will be St. George 70.3, #3 for me. I love doing this race as an early season A race and i believe it sets up the rest of my season very well. The swim is cold but crystal clear. The bike has lots of climbing, but gives up some very fast times despite all the climbing. The run you are pretty much either going uphill or downhill the entire time.
I look forward to seeing some familiar faces and some new faces in St George. Any questions on the course, feel free to hit me up.
Hi All
I imagine some of us are now on the HIM plan. I started a week 10 thread so we can start sharing some training Mojo!

Juan - Not sure if spectators are required to ride the shuttles like the athletes from downtown st. george to sand hollow. Even if they are letting cars in i can't imagine they would open up traffic until everyone is out of the water and on the bike. I don't have any direct experience with spectators at this race, but if it were my family i would recommend they skip the swim start and just show at T2 and the finish. I suggest checking the athlete guide and then making a call.
1) when/where/what time there will be a team dinner??
2) is it allowed to swim in the venue priori to race day??
Juan, they are talking about having the race dinner at Cappeletti's, it is 1/2 a block east of the finish line (36 E Tabernacle). The swim course is at Sand Hollow state park. You can swim their at any time, but will have to pay to enter the park. On Friday you are allowed to enter for free to drop off your bike, and can swim at that time. Hope this helps.
There is a new road that go's out to sand hoolow reservoir that spectators can use. You have to park on the side of the road and walk in, approximately .5 miles. If they don't want to do that, their is a shuttle that will take spectators back and forth, but they will have to wait until all the swimmers are finished and out of T1. My sister used the shuttle the first year, and the back road last year. She made it back in plenty of time for T2.
@Brent, my plan on the 29th is to swim at 7:30-8:00am (see if my brain understands swimming in such cold water early in the morning). From there I will drive all the bike course (riding a couple key segments) all the way to T2. Hope you can join me, at least for there swim!!
Hello team members,
been on the fence to do this race due to a back injury first of the year with no training January and February but after long consideration and my last biig day workout 1.25 hour swim(30min admin)and a 45 mile bike at 75% ftp and a very good run(after 2 miles when the stiffness worked out my back) negative split ..i will be competing with you all. I will be in ST George on wed for work and can meet up for dinner on Thursday evening ..this is in preparation to my A race #1 In CDA..hope to see you all there happy and healthy
James
