prismed glasses for ironman bike racing
John W. mentions positional fitness in posts. this is a huge thing for me as comfort becomes a factor at hour three in an ironman bike. I have discussions with Todd Kenyon (online bike fitter) about my rounded back and problems with having to strain the neck to see. on his suggestion, am actually going to be trying prismed glasses that will allow me to continue looking down while seeing forwards.
I am looking forwards to seeing if this works in the real world.
there is a company that sells a tinted glass with a prism on one of the lenses for around $200. I found a double prismed glass that sells for $25 from some company in china. note the standard lie down and watch tv glass will not work become the prisms are facing the wrong direction. but my glasses look the same otherwise.
hopefully will work ok on a flat course. will be different translating looking down but seeing forwards. plan to use these with my Giro Air Attack without the visor. will use neoprene strap to make sure they do not fall off
in addition to translating the forwarding looking input, hoping the sun glare won't be a problem. looking down mostly should be equivalent to wearing a hat with a big brim. if the sun is a problem, and the glasses I have work, I will consider getting the expensive, tinted, one prismed glasses.
I guess if these were magic, more folks would be using them? if it allows me to keep my face looking down mostly, the aero and comfort benefits should be great.

Stefan. yes what I have are basically the same thing. designed for watching a climber. though these ones might fit behind a Air Atttack visor/shield better?

Speaking from the depths of myopia, I have to say that vision is highly over-rated. I prefer echo-location for detecting obstacles in my way while biking
have not used outside yet.
but working fine indoors watching tv while biking.
a bit of an adjustment looking down and seeing forwards.
I guess what I worry about most is lack of eye sun protection. I am hoping that looking down makes up for this.
