Fenix 2 HR Run strap calibration

I'm using the Fenix 2 with the dedicated HR + Run strap.....this strap collects HR and other run metrics....cadence/pace/stride length/vertical oscillation/etc...for TM running this very convienent since the foot pod not req'd anymore ....the problem I'm having is my run pace is way off.....@ z4 F2 is showing 6:00 pace when in reality it should be 8:00 (based on TM input speed)....similar problem @ z1....this is a personal TM so I know it's accuracy/history well.....yesterday I ran on an indoor track and had similar pace problems.... presently I'm using HR exclusively cuz I know I'm not that fast anymore.....I believe the cadence to be accurate based personal history.....the manual isn't very clear about calibration of this system....manual talks about more outside running helps internal F2 calibrations....@ this time of the year it's difficult for me to get outside on a regular basis.....anyone else encounter this problem? have u found a solution?....thx

  • Hey Jeff, I have the 620 which uses the same technology. I believe the strap collects vertical oscillation, ground contact time and stride length. Cadence/pacing is based off an accelerometer within the watch. It does not work well for pace. I know other teammates have had the same issue. I don't think there is a way to calibrate the accelerometer. If you want accurate pacing data the foot pod works much better, although not perfect. Z4 & Z5 paces are still significantly off for me between 15 - 30 seconds per mile.
  • Jeff, with my Fenix2 on the treadmill, my pace is not very accurate. In my case, it is slower than the actual treadmill pace. Like you, I am using the same treadmill all the time (at the gym) which I found to be very accurate when using my Garmin 310 with a foot pod which I had calibrated outdoors.

As I understand it, the Fenix does its own calibration based on all the running you do outdoors, and then uses the info it receives when you select "Indoor" workouts to guesstimate the TM pace. I have a fairly flat RPM/pace curve outdoors, likewise my VO. My GCT correlates well to pace outdoors ... the faster I go, the less time my feet stay on the ground. Maybe you have a different RPM/pace curve outdoors compared to the TM. I've decided to just live with it, as I can use the TM readout to base my interval times, rather than going with the Fenix. I use the watch mainly for monitoring HR.

  • Guys thx for the input...guess I'll live with it for now...maybe as I get outside more often the accuracy will improve...the only downside is when I review my GC file the pace is off....I look like a stud banging out 6:00 miles :-)....I have a foot pod laying around I just need to find it
