Michael Michelangeli Running Concerns

Hi Rich!

This is my first week in EN and I'm really excited to start! My running training has been always based on mileage. I tried the several years ago training based on intensity but I found that I got shin spleens and my calf's tighten to the point where I was not able to finish the running WO. Is this a common issue? What recommendations can you give me?

thanks,

Michael M

  • @M2, Coach Patrick here the default running coach. This question might be best for the Team as it's not a "Training Plan" question but a "running health" one, but I am happy to answer you.

Whether you run for mileage or time or intensity, you are running. Sounds like you are used to more steady state running -- as in Zone 2, run all day, etc. -- and if so, you will need to use the Beginner Plans and be smart with the "work" we have scheduled for you. They start off with 2 x 1/2 mile, for example, which should be pretty doable. This is especially true b/c all Endurance Nation plans use your Functional Test Results -- all zones are based off of the 5k test that you ran, so no over-reaching or running too hard is really possible.

If need be, you and I can talk in the Micro Thread about spacing out / adjusting runs to accommodate you as well!
