Cold weather stuck on trainer.....long rides?

I am transitioning soon from out to IM training and will be stuck on the trainer for months due to weather.

I see you instruct us not to go over 1.5 on trainer, and that concerns me that I won't get enough hours on the bike since I am stuck inside. It is my first time with EN and my first IM. Can you give me some context on how to know when to go longer inside? If easier via phone let me know and I can call. Thanks! Kalletta

  • Did you watch this weeks coaches chat? I think Rich took this very topic head on. I feel what you're saying though... I'm getting ready for IMTX and feel the same way about the lack of volume... But as the OS nears an end I find myself hitting new bike/run highs like everyone said I would. So.. For now I just keep pushing the intervals... Knowing those stronger muscles will make short work of the volume increases later on.
  • Kalletta, I am looking at your Triathlon Season Roadmap from Coach Rich (under training) and the plan in there shows your IM as Louisville and your start to IM training happening on 7/20/15. If there is an error there, please re do it...otherwise:

    (1) You have 9 months to IM race day, which is a full season in EN-land.

    (2) Our early season focus is on quality vs volume -- your OutSeason® now, soon to be followed by the Bike Focus and Get Faster plans.

    (3) You'll have 9 weeks to follow the HIM plan into Vineman, which is plenty of time to build your volume; but if you are worried about that, then we can start extending trainer workouts come April (not January!)

    (4) Remember that all these plans, plus the cumulative training PLUS your HIM training is all a build up to get you ready to handle the volume in your IM Race Prep Phase starting in July.

If you'd prefer to talk you can schedule a call with me for sure! My schedule is online here: http://meetme.so/patrickmccrann -- Please remember to include your phone number.
