Volume of running in the half IM plans

Curious what the consensus is about the running volume in the half (advanced) plans.  I jumped into week 6 and just looking at some of the main interval sets they look very doable however they might end up being 15-16 mile runs.  I'm curious if a run takes us over 13 miles do we proceed or just try to keep the runs under that distance for total miles in a workout?

thanks

  • In last year's intermediate plan, there was a note saying "Note: if you are a fast doode/chica who puts in 15 miles in 2 hours, stop at 15 miles.  PLEASE"

Dunno if it's the same for advanced, but I never went over that threshold.

  • thanks!  I start HIM at week 6 Monday...

  • Dan I personally stick to the time limits and let distance sort it's self out on both the bike and the run. It the run is not supposed to go over 2 hours I don't go over two hours. I do follow the intervals and sometimes end up covering a good number of miles.
  • Dan... I too follow the number of minutes to the plan.  I am sometimes at 15 miles in my 100 minute runs and can remember last year in the 2 hour runs being at like 17 miles or more, but I think Matt and I are on the IM plans and the more the mileage the better in my opinion, if your a fast dude.  On the other hand, if an HIM plan the coaches may advise otherwise but I personally don't see anything but just making you stronger for your Half.

  • Dan,
The extra miles will serve you well on race day. Stick with the time/intervals as prescribed.
  • I did the Advanced plan last year and stopped at 15 miles, per the coaches suggestion, which came in under 2 hours. I did a 1:48 or something like that.

  • Dan, do the time and let distance sort itself out.
