Hey Coach!

I just added a 13.1 to my season on April 4. Curious if I should submit a new season roadmap request or just keep cruising along as is? It's a low priority race but I felt like I had to add one to keep myself motivated to put the work in on the run. I feel like my run could use a lot of work - not feeling very confident there right now. Any advice? Thanks a bunch!

Here's the plan right now
Finish nov OS
Swim camp
Get faster
HIM plan loaded to start 3/30
(70.3 on 6/13)
1 week unplanned
IM
(140.6 on 9/13)

No, no need to account for this in your TSR. This will just be a training race for you. Have fun!

  • Hi Coach R,

There's a group of EN folks planning to do a training weekend in Madison over memorial day weekend. I'd love to take the opportunity to join in on it to get as much exposure to the course before Sept as possible. However, the weekend also falls on week 17 of my HIM training which means RR weekend. Is it a good or bad idea to do my RR in Madison over that weekend? Half is a small race in MN. Is there anything special I should keep in mind if I plan to do this? It feels like a good opportunity, but I guess I am just looking for reassurance.

    Thanks for your insight!

Yes, I've seen Rachel talking about that weekend in the forums here. That would be a good opportunity for you. However, the final RR is in Wk18 of the HIM plan, not Wk17 so may want to check that? Regardless, doing the RR on the IMWI course would be great.

  • Hey coach! Nice meeting you in Wisconsin! I hope you're enjoying recovery & a big congrats on the KQ!!

So, I DNFed, missed the bike cutoff by 4 mins - race report here: http://members.endurancenation.us/Forums/tabid/57/aft/19641/Default.aspx

I'm 90% sure that I am going to register for IMWI again next year, just letting all this sink in and take some time to think about it before pulling the trigger. I think revenge training is going to be awfully fun! I'll be submitting a new TSR soon, but I want to get your advice on what to do between now and what I imagine will be the start of Nov OS.

I don't have anything on the calendar for this year yet except for a dinky 5k race the first weekend of Nov. A part of me thinks it would be fun to spend the next month or so focusing on speed work & sprinkling in some fun yoga & strength training sessions while really paying attention to losing some lbs before gearing back up into tri mode where I'm going to learn how to be a beast on the bike and upgrade some equipment (get a powermeter, tri bike, etc).

Appreciate any thoughts or advice you have! Thanks!

    Hey Lindsay,

Thanks and great meeting you as well. My notes for you:

    • While I understand you may think your race was all about the bike...it's not. Ironman still remains all about the run. Trust me, you'll have no problem keeping the bike rolling, improving, and getting faster. That's easy to do. But we need to keep rolling the run ball you've built. I recommend you (1) use the Run Durability plan between now and 10/26, the start of NovOS and (2) start developing and implementing the body comp improvement habits and tools we have in there. Again, that's a long term project that will pay off tremendously for you.
    • I imagine you'll have a ton of admin things and friction to take care of with your move to SFO. So while you'll start the NovOS, don't be surprised if things don't go as planned and you end up restarting the OS in January...or not...just sayin' I've seen situations like yours in the past. Regardless, you're totally fine with a JanOS vs NovOS start for IMWI.
    • But...keep the run rolling at all costs. 3-5x/wk, the best you can, regardless of whatever else you have going on in your life.

    Good luck!

  • Sounds great, thank you! Run durability plan is loaded!
