Run Form, part deux

I've been working on my form since my last slow mo video. I hope y'all can see some improvement. I feel better running. I am trying to land my lead foot more under my body and keep flex in my knee upon landing.

  • Ron, it is my personal opinion, your form need improve, I was like you last year, it finished with plantar fasciitis it takes me 7 months to recover.

Land on mid foot you candle be 80-90, lean forward and all stride in your back.

    I used - http://racereadycoaching.com/run-makeovers/

I'm about 50sec faster in my zone 1.
  • Nice stuff, Don. What stood out for me in the clip:

-Good work on focussing on your footstrike, There's still room for improvement ... unfortunately, with any run form, there's always room for improvement. What you might find useful is looking at your shin as the foot strikes - Is it at 90 degrees? Unless it is (or unless it's less), then there's still room for improvement to minimize the "braking" that is going on. (I have to relearn this every OS ... and spend the first few weeks on a treadmill with a side-facing mirror to give continuous feedback, as well as video for review. If you have a TM, go for it).

-I see bending at the waist, which can be one of the contributors to the above, but is also an area for improvement. Push the hips forward, and almost drive your forward momentum from the pelvis. Keep a nice straight line ears to hips to ankles. The hip thing is tough to master, but a useful (but crude) was of thinking about the cue is a quote from Donald Sutherland in the movie Pre, where he describes the forward hips in running as the 'deepest part of the thrust.' Again, not my cue, but darned if it isn't right.

Also, keep up the work! Form improvement is continuous and you are light years ahead in taking the time to video, post and absorb feedback. More important, you're now thinking of form all the time and are much more attuned to what parts across the whole kinetic system / chain work for you, and what parts don't.
  • Don, 10x better, nice work. I see lots of improvement, especially with your alignment and drive. I have picked two areas I think you can improve: higher hands and yes, better front foot placement. Let's be clear -- there is no perfect, there is only "better" and you are well on your way to achieving that. Very pumped for you.
