Good set of intervals yesterday. I backed off during the warmup with 12' @ 0.826. Then, the serious work began. Got all 3 intervals (20,20,12) in at or slightly above 1.0. I haven't gone back to check my Garmin account, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't hitting 1.0s consistently at this stage of my previous 2 NOS's. Bodes well for the rest this week and for the rest of the season. Planning to get in the pool for an EZ swim tomorrow morning.
I am always worried about Saturday's 2 x 20, but each one so far has gone well. This Saturday was still good even with the extra 5 min added. I pulled a 1.01, 1.02, and 1.03 and heart rates were lower than the previous three weeks. I'm ready to test. Hope everyone is able to enjoy a good rest day
@Mark - good luck with the process! Hope you get time to decompress.
@David - any way we can simulate a race real time over the Net? You doing a 5 or 10 km?
Ever since Tuesday night I've been feeling off. Yesterday I was completely drained. Got on the bike for 10 minutes but had nothing. Today I felt much better, had more energy, but still not 100%. Got on the bike and did yesterday's workout. It wasn't easy but I did it. Will head to the gym in a couple hours for a TM run.
@ David, Yeah, I know stress has an effect, I just don't think I realized how much stress I was under until it was over. Funny what your brain will hide from you.
@ Judson, Nothing like a good workout to help decompress. Read on.
So it was in the 50's here today but the sun didn't come out early as I would have hoped. I took my road bike out to do yesterdays 2X20 & 1X5 FTP set. The roads were still wet from the rain and the fog and the bike and I got really trashed from the grit and whatnot on the shoulder, but it sure was fun being outside. I did the intervals at 1.00, 1.00, and 1.02. They were hard but not as mentally hard as doing them on the trainer. I hopped on the trail and headed back home and got in 12 minutes of Z3 work at 0.85 and then I saw three bicyclist in the middle of the trail trying to change a tire. I asked if they had everything they needed and they asked if I knew how to change a tire.
It turns out two of them are triathletes and have done sprint and olympic distance races. Two of them are going to do Oceanside 70.3 this year and neither of them had ever changed a tire before. Talk about lucky. We got the tire and tube installed (when I stopped he had the tube nested in the rim and was trying to stuff the tire down around it) and when we went to blow it up it started leaking. Luckily his girlfriend had another tube so we tried that and got it fixed. That added about 19 minutes of stoppage time to my ride, but it was worth it. I finished the ride with 43 minutes of Z1. After I got home I changed clothes and grabbed the dog for an EZ run.
A way different experience from Friday when I was doing all I could and barely hitting Z4 for 5 minutes at a time.
