  • My Sunday swim was a repeat of Thursday's workout, but I went 1s/100yds faster this time around: 5 x 400 (30-35") @ 6:48.

I'm continuing with my morning ritual of 7 minutes of stretching, followed by the Seven Minute Workout. I've gained 4# since the end of the season (11/16), and am holding steady right where I want to be.

  • Weight is down 3 pounds since the OS started. Core workouts are getting done but this has been a neglected area for me, so it is not very enjoyable just yet!
  • No weight change for me.  Same as OSwk 1.  Had hoped to be down 2 pounds by now.  Looking at myfitnesspal, it looks like I should've lost some weight.  I usually have 4 days below threshold and 3 days above.  Of course, fudging on serving size makes it all not add up!  I will continue to monitor closely and try to eliminate the overeating days.

I think I will go back to swimming M/F, as I just hate the core exercises and am thus not doing anything.

  • I've lost 5.6 lbs. 10 more to go to hit my goal of 150. Today was tough with the added planks but felt great. Have a great week everyone.
  • Morning weight: 177.8, down from 180.2 in Wk1.

Did the core routine with my son. Total across the four set 5:15 of planks, 200 cords, 71 pushups.

Now to get some SAUs taking the dog for a walk with her.
  • Wow! Nice work everyone! Keep your eyes on your goals - what ever they are!!

Jeff - I hear you on the over /under that happens to me too.
I stayed the same this week - prob due to rough week at work and not focused on me!

  • I decided to try the 1 on 1 nutrition plan through Core diet. So far I'm happy with the results. I started the OS at 229lbs and now down to 222 lbs. It is nice to have a registered dietitian create a plan for a endurance athlete. The plan really opened my eyes to fueling for workouts. It's a big change from how I normally ate.
  • I'm down 1 pound for the week. Based on my weekly trend, I am probably down 2 pounds, but the scale didn't go in my favor this morning. That's one to bank for next week's weigh in. I had two crappy days, where work meetings ran long, like three hours long. I missed snacks and lunch on both days causing a downward spiral for the day. McD's and donut entitlement reared their ugly heads.
  • OK, I'm late to the party. Can I stay?

Did my first core session today so I'm way behind you guys. Keeping it simple, not gonna try to do too much for two weeks, Then, I'll re-evaluate.

    pushups: 3x 15
    planks: 3x :45
side planks: 2x :30 ea side
    cordz, straight: 3x15
    cordz, catch: 3x 10
    cordz, triceps: 2x 10

    wt: 161#
  • Still sore from Friday core (completed on Sat) and 2015 swim challenge yesterday.
    Front Plank (2:00/2:00/2:00)
    Cords (Halo with H.E.A.T.) (60/50/50)
    Push-ups regular 50 Military 25 regular 37
  • The one complaint I had in the back of my mind last season was weak my upper body was. I am thankful for the accountability of working upper body/core strength exercises into this year's OS.

    Plank: 7:15
    Pushups: 169
    Cordz: 159
  • Weight is flat to slightly up, cyclically on point so I am not surprised. Discouraged though, I have to admit.

    Planks 1:25 for two
Catches and full pulls - no idea. Did it alongside a YouTube video. I changed up to a higher latch point and that seemed to make things feel more swim-like. Maybe 20 and 30 at a best guess? Felt good to get the arms working! I was a bit surprised at the core engagement.

@Chris - I'm late on board, too, you're not alone. Every day just a little bit closer, right?

@Travis - Thanks for sharing the feedback! Keep us posted. image

My Iowa State Cyclones are continuing to do well, it's been a fun year to watch them.
  • One of my sons is having some trouble passing level 8/10 in Swim America swim school, so he wanted to go "practice" tonight, so we went for an hour.  He was done after about 15minutes, but I just kept swimming and he did a little more!  He needs help with the butterfly, with which I cannot help!  I did most of the swim smooth #5 session, until we ran out of time.  2375yds in 48min of swimming time (instruction/encouragement interspersed).  Much prefer this to planks, pushups and cordz!

  • Go Cyclones! I went to Drake, and most of the people I know who still live in Iowa are Hawkeye fans, BUT...I root for any team from the state...unless they are playing each other ... then it's...Drake, UNI, Iowa State...and Hawkeyes last. People with pro teams in their states don't understand this mentality. image

Can I join this thread? I just started the whole thing yesterday.

    Thanks!

  • Weight is down 5 to 244.

2 planks 1:50, 2X23 push ups.  I'm just repeating week 1 and hopefully adding in stretch cords when I get them.

It's a small world!  I lived on Sevilla Ave for 6 months (a long time ago). image  I'm sure your weather is slightly better for outdoor activity than mine.

  • Welcome new comers - the more the merrier.....
  • Thanks Ann and Becky! Becky i also lived in Chicago for 7 years... many moons ago. I live on Almeria near the venetian pool.

I weighed in at 171.5 this morning. So I'm up a few. I try no to weigh very often but it's good to check in and be accountable. A dusty scale is not a good sign. I'm 5'7", turned 50 last year. I love the strength training here, it's smart and necessary for someone my age in particular. Let's roll!

  • Weight is down about 3 lbs. As far as pushups been kicking off the p90x workouts on Mondays and Fridays for upper body so about 180 pushups between; standard, military, wide, decline, diamond, and dive bombers. Then Its core routine. Tues & Thursday been planking 2x2:00 standard and 2x2:00 side so far.
  • I am following some workout app for the Monday's and Friday's workouts. Besides that I try to do some planks (1x 90 sec or 2x 60 sec) after each run, time permitting.

BTW, there is a plank challenge event starting Feb 1st on Facebook. Almost daily progressive planking...looks like a good event for newcomers in planking

  • Week 3 Core done...I am not sore, but today was more difficult than last week

Weight - down -1lb, finally going in the right direction

  • Do I really dislike planks. And I used to think 30 seconds at a time was a killer. I jumped on the scale and was was pleasantly surprised to see I am 2 lbs down from Monday's weigh in. Now I just have to make it through the weekend.

    Planks: 8:02
    PU: 183
    Bandz; 207
  • Hard to get motivated to do the Core workout same day as swimming 3200 yards! Oh well, the weight is down 3 lbs so far. I'll get there!  Good job everyone!

  • Carol....In my world, 3200yd swim IS a core workout!

I did 2850yds in the pool.  Working slowly through the swim smooth series.  Not sure I'm digging it though....

  • Morning weight is 193, which is 2 lbs lost. Although I weigh in every day, I don't consider myself 'losing weight' until I see a trend that lasts a few weeks. So its a guarded 'good so far'. My weight fluctuates a lot due to whatever salt intake I have on any given day.

I'm partaking of the forbidden aquatic fruit M/W/F, low intensity and low personal cost due proximity, until the end of the OS. Pullups/Pushups/Sit Ups after my Tuesday and Saturday workouts. Stretching and foam roller work every night while I watch my allocated 1 TV show. 9 o'clock in bed with 10 o'clock lights out has been good so far.

Great work everyone. Keep on it.
