Erik Schlanger's Macro Thread
Hi Coach,
I'm looking to change my plan up a bit. My big "A" race his season is IM Boulder on 2-Aug. (which will be my first IM) I had been thinking I would do a OLY distance race in May. I'm thinking I would like to do a Half sometime before the IM instead of the OLY. There is the IM 70.3 Texas on 26-April. Does this seem like good timing given that my real focus is IM Boulder? I think it would be good for me to have a race to look forward to and target before the IM. I know I have info on EN about doing a Half too close to an IM. Does this seem ok?
If this doesn't seem like a bad I idea I was wondering if you could update my TSR? Is there a separate place I need to request that?
Thanks,
Erik

Hi Erik,
I did this for you yesterday so I think we're square?

Hi Coach,
I could use some advice on how to proceed with my season. I'm slowly getting back in to running after dealing with PF problems in my left foot. I'm going through the run re-entry protocol. I'm about wk 7... Feeling pretty good foot wise, but not near 100%.
My real A race this season is my first full IM, IM Boulder on 2-Aug. I have been wanting to do IM 70.3 Texas on 26-April and am supposed to start the HIM plan today. Given where I am with running now (essentially having taken 6-8wks off from running) I'm not sure if it's reasonable for me to get my running legs back in time for April 26 HIM. What are your thoughts?
If I skipped the HIM and just trained up for IM Boulder, what would you suggest that my training should look like? I have thought about following though with the HIM plan and see how it goes...
Very interested in your thoughts or anyone else out there...
Many Thanks!
Erik
Hi Erik,
I think you should still load up the HIM as planned, per the TSR I created for you, but continue to modify the running in that plan as needed. With this route you'll have guidance for the run regarding what you "should" be doing, and then continue to turn that down, while the weekly guidance for your bike will continue to progress towards HIM-esque fitness, which will then be transitioned towards your IM plan, etc.
Do ^this^ until X weeks out from your HIM. See where you are, decide if you feel it would still be valuable/worth your time, effort, and money to race that HIM without the fitness that you'd like to have. Most importantly, would it still be fun? If yes, race. If not, don't. Pretty simple.
In the end, PF can be a bitch to clear up. You just need to be patient, continue to work and adjust the plan daily. In the end, it is what it is.
Thanks for the info coach. Much appreciated, I think i'll stick with it and see how I feel in a few weeks...
Erik
