Help, new tri bike?

Currently riding a trek equinox with shimano 105s. Bought it used for $800 a couple years ago. Looking to move to either a new 2014 cervelo p2 with ultegra components for $2700 or a used 2013 cervelo p2 with dura -ace components and some hydration, x-lab torpedo, for $2400. 2014 is cervelo new style.
Any help/thoughts?

  • Terry I've had a 2014 P3 for the past four months. It's my first TT bike so not much to compare against but I love riding it. The frame is the same as the P2 you are looking at. There is a well documented and common problem with the Cervelo bottom bracket that can result in creaking under load, and yes I have experienced it. It's an annoyance rather than anything fatal.
  • Terry,

I have been doing triathlons for about 12 months on a road bike with aero bars. I knew that I could improve if I rode a Tri bike. Here is an article that reviews the 2014 P2  http://aerogeeks.com/2014/07/29/cer...-thoughts/

I did a lot of homework and decided on the 2014 P2 10 speed with 105....paid $1,900 in December since it was a " 2014 closeout"....the 2015 P2 has 11 speed gear set and is priced around $2,500? I felt that the one extra gear was not as important as wheels, power meter, etc.

I bought this bike because you can race it out of the box and upgrade it now with the savings of not buying the 2015 11 speed. I added 46cm Reynolds Carbon wheels with Powertap, A Speedfil reservoir and a Remora bento box....This set up will suit me for many races and levels to come. Good luck.
