I'm trying to decide on doing an FTP test beginning of week 5.  I'm in the Jan OS Int week 4 plan I came in with a 215 FTP and in general not good form, due to this I've stepped back from the advanced plan, which I've done before. Life time best FTP  is 260 so I expect some quick gains.  I have also been doing limited running 3-4 25' sessions with walking due to a foot issues that is resolving itself.  My plan is to introduce more running slowing starting week 5 but still limited intensity, maybe z3 at best.

Most recent rides as follows:

Today 2X12' 1.01 1.02; 20' @.86  Total 61' @.90 - Felt good and holding back on the 2X12 a little

Last Sat 2X10 1.01, 1.03 2X15 .85 .88  TOTal 69' .89- Great ride, HR lower 3-4 beats and holding back on the 2X10

Last Fri moved from Thurs VO2 7X1.2-1.23 12' @.85 43' total .93

Last Tue 2X10 .99, 1.0 33' total due to time - FTP felt hard got some more sleep and this corrected itself in the

So do you think it's prudent to do a FTP test beginning of week 5 or just keep pressing up the longer intervals1.02, 1.03 etc?

  • GC I don't think you need to test as a wily veteran...rather than thinking "1.02" you could say "My current FTP is 215...today I will try to hit 220. And after that, you do 225...etc. Just ratchet it up to your "known" FTP of 260.
