JOS 2015 WK 5: How is the core coming? Weight?

Happy SUPERBOWL day....and week after!  It's a new week and new month!

Looking at last few weeks many are have great progress!  Congrats....on that hard work and progress love hearing about it.

I seem to be maintaining..which in my book is better than gaining!

Cheers to a new week of new stories.....

  • Thanks Ann! I can't believe how fast January went by

I had to lay off the push ups last week due to a painful left shoulder (biceps tendinitis I think). Thankfully thats better now
  • Weight is down about 3 lb. Still need to work on food discipline, especially while on business travel (aka expense report). Done a good job of cutting out alcohol, but still need to work on the sweet tooth.
  • Finally made some progress in the body comp arena this week.  Had to really watch my "extracurricular" eating tendencies, avoid sweets and limit portion size.  I'm down 3lbs from start of OS.....had hoped to be 4lbs down.

  • Not the best week for me.  Held even at 239 with a poker game, Friday night SAU's supper and a Saturday evening out with friends, I had way too many opportunities to fall off my plan.  Still down 10 from the start of the OS but need to keep focused.

I'll probably be down 2 lbs tomorrow as I had a few drinks Saturday evening and my body usually responds by keeping some of the fluids as I rehydrate.

  • About 1 pound down for this week and 7 for the OS. Just bought a new scale, so there may be a calibration difference between the two scales. Hopefully in the losing weight directions.

Stayed steady on my meal planning to "save" up for a cheat day on Sunday. Didn't bother with counting calories for the Super Bowl feasting. I'm still fighting a chest cold, so no beers for me.
  • First full week on Core Diet and its working well, weight down 2.4 lbs this week.  It definitely took some time and effort to get dialed in, but it seems to be working now.

  • Stuck in the ICU tonight after my case in the OR today. Had some free time to knock out core work-out (I didn't have swim cords but had my TRX suspension trainer so I used rows for the cord section):TRX rows: 25/50/50/50 Tripod: 2'/2' Side plank: (switched sides every 30") 2'/2'; standard pushups 50/50 military pushups 25/30

weight yesterday down 3# total for the OS

  • Despite a good uptick time and intensity of workouts my weight has been holding steady or up slightly. I haven't shifted focus yet to calorie counting so I suspect that I am over fueling a bit as I adjust. My body also holds on very hard to weight, I am almost always +|- 3 pounds regardless of in take or output.
  • Weight is about the same. Can't do a real push-up yet, but I'm getting closer!

  • Weight is down overall for the OS but up this past week. The superbowl, and two days since have been bad for me - way too many snacks. Need to stop that before it becomes a trend. Core is improving but a general area of weakness I know I need to work on more but never seem to find the time needed (bad excuse!).
  • My weight was only down 1 pound last week. It is a small step in the right direction. I still have about 17 pounds to get rid of before my first race in June. I like the core workout it is an area I need work. This forum keeps me accountable.
  • Weight maintains the slow steady decline, which is a happiness. Down 4 lbs in 4 weeks. I think its mainly a combination of three things, consistent sleep (7-8 hours a night and naps on the weekend), jamming the fridge and pantry with fruits, veggies, fish, and chicken, and consistent focus on maintaining the work out schedule. I'm still having desserts image but keeping the rest of the diet in check.

Good solid work from everyone! Stay the course.
  • @Stephanie-last year I could barely do one or two push-ups off knees, and 5 on knees. This year I'm up to 5, followed by 10 on knees. Keep at it, they will come-slowly!
  • Betsy that's so good to hear! I swear I'm close. I'll post something ridiculously celebratory when I do my first one!

  • Stephanie - you will get there on push ups! I started on knees, then my gym had me use a resistance band which hangs from the wall/ceiling and the band around my waist, this helped me graduate from knees and build up to reg push ups. I have built up to now being able to do 4 sets of 12 push ups. image
  • @ann what a great idea! I think I can do that at home too! I love a TEAM!!! thanks!

  • Friday swim (http://tpks.ws/FhSL) followed by core routine: Tripod plan 2:00 x2 Side Plank 2:00 x2, Halo cords Catch 50 x2 Catch with finish x2 push-ups standard 50x2 military 30x1 Decline 30x1.

BTW here is the Core tracker link again:   https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1n4csDYpEzr0V4LFPrx6aboh2Gcecsh6fNnmNHHbVKd8/edit?usp=sharing

  • Core work done. Down another pound yesterday; now two from my goal of 170.
