Extra Cycling this Week in FL

Hi there!  I'm going to visit my parents in FL this weekend in The Villages (aka Old People Disneyland) and they have cycling groups that ride every day at 8:30.  I'm going to rent a bike and ride at least Sat & Sun. so wondering how (if) I alter this week and next week.  I plan on doing the long run either Fri. or Mon. (I'm there Fri-Mon) so not sure how to adjust to accommodate as I'm Week 5 of Int JOS right now and don't want to overdo it...

I plan on riding w/ the B group, 17-20 MPH ---- distance 25-40 miles/day.  Any thoughts on if any changes should be made to this week or next week's OS training?

  • DO IT! Just regular OS it and try it run a short bit off the bike to make up for the lost long run. If you got in 40' each day of running I'd be stoked. So fun!
  • Cool! Just to clarify, should I NOT try to do the long run at all (I was thinking fri or Mon). Since my run kinda, well, sucks, I'm worried about missing the "quality" Z4 work if I just run a bit off the bike. But I'll do whatever u think is OK.

weather is looking great for the weekend. Doing my own mini volume camp I guess. image
  • I'd rather you get the cycling in plus some running. A long run means nothing else that day and a pretty crappy next day as well!
  • Hey there! Had a great time in FL and due to weather, got an extra day of riding in. Not as much intensity as I would have liked (no power meter anyway) but still fun. 85 miles total in 3 days with brick run after 2 of the rides that went really well and gave me lots of brick run confidence, which I def need!!

Anyway, since I came back a day late, I'm a day behind in my WKOs. Did the Tues FTP/brick WKO tonight and plan to do the Wed. run on thurs. Here are my thoughts and question for the week:

Here are my options, I think: 1) Skip the Thurs. VO2 WKO entirely (and not do a "make-up") since I'll be doing the Wed. run on Thurs. 2) Do VO2 WKO on Fri. or 3) Attempt the VO2 intervals after the FTP intervals (or before?) on Sat. and see how that feels. I would normally be fine with missing a WKO but I missed the VO2 last week due to travel so I don't want to miss it 2X.

I did also miss the Wed. run last week, so I feel like I slacked last week and prefer not to miss another, but also don't want to dig a hole. (I know we usually say "if you miss a WKO, move on and get over it") but missing 3 WKOs over 2 weeks doesn't sit well with me....
  • Missed workout yes but not like it was for a pie-eating contest that you won the world title in or something. You were TRAINING.

No VO2 on Friday please, it would be too much. You can extend ride time on Sat to "make up" the missed bike time, but not the VO2 part.

I need you to be awesome all year not just now...let's be smart!
