Race week Training Adjustments

So I realize it might be a bit early to be thinking about race week of training being that it's 4 weeks way - but I'm writing up my race plan and just had to look ahead to help me know what to do the week going into IM NZ.

We are leaving on March 1 (Sunday) which is off.  Then we lose March 2 in the air and arrive March 3 in the morning.  4 hour drive to race site/flat.  I'm doing the 12 week intermediate minimalist plan.  So here's my notes so far of what's planned (no self adjusting.....yet)

Monday (3/2) Ride 60 Z2/3, Run 30 Z1/2 strides [on plane]

Tuesday (3/3) Run 30Z1/2 strides [arriving early am, 4 hour drive to Taupo eta 1pm]

Wednesday (3/4) Ride 90 course ride, swim 30 [store/expo open, also a 5K fun family run/walk 6pm......could I do/walk this if I'm feeling rested??? 

Thursday (3/5) Swim 30, bike 30 check set up one last time, run 30 2 x miles at Z2 [athlete check-in 9-4, race briefing 7pm]

Friday (3/6) nada, [bike/bag check-in 10-4]

Saturday (3/7) Race Day - CRUSH IT!!!

I've already started packing image  It's not like I need my summer clothes now anyway right???

  • Your Monday /Tuesday are just there to keep you loose. So stretch / yoga / hydrate it out on the plane. Bonus if you can jog a 30' on Tuesday when you finally arrive. Wed is course ride and swim. No 5k for you. You should be off your feet (or walk only). Thursday through the race as planned.

    Only note is you might want to assemble the bike as soon as you get "there" so you can confirm it's okay / needs help, etc!!
