Training Questions
Following the LTIMI program, I have improved my vdot and still continue to get stronger on the bike. I have backed down the training since the test and started the swim camp. I am scheduled to enter the Get Faster program after the swim camp, but I will be on vacation during that first week. I will be able to run and swim, but no bike. (Feb 13 - Feb 19) I am looking for suggestions for training during this period. Is another 28 day run challenge before IMLP a good idea? I will be continuing to run 5 - 6 days per week anyway.
Now for the Super Smart Guy questions. First, my brother is doing the Tupper Lake race again this year. That race is June 27th (Saturday of week 16 Ironman Plan) and I would like to race it with him. This is not my "A" race and I have not signed up for it. My thought is to simply insert that race into Saturday with no real taper. Week 17 has a 150 minute run on Wednesday and a Race distance swim on Friday. Saturday has a 40 minute pre-ride run and a 300 minute ride. Sunday is scheduled a 210 minute ride. If I did that race, I would be looking at Riding Saturday somewhere around 150 minutes and then running my best effort for the 13.1. Potentially, I could do a long ride on Sunday of over 100 miles. Obviously, the intensity of the two rides would be drastically different. As this is only 4 weeks from IMLP, is this a game breaker?
The second question is our family summer vacation is set for July 6 - July 12. This is week 18 of the Ironman plan. I could swap week 17 & week 18 so I could get the race rehearsal done before we leave. Week 17 has a bike test.
