I am doing IM Chatanooga on 9/27.

Do you think it is to much to also do Gran Fondo Whistler?  (Very hilly course)

What is the date of the GF?

  • Sorry for omitting that small detail. 9/12

Sorry for omitting that small detail. 9/12

That will be (I think) the weekend of your final race rehearsal, your single most important workout of the year = not a good idea to do the GF instead. And a GF isn't a good RR venue. If you could do something like that the week before, on 9/5, that would be good. But 9/12 is too close and comes at the expense of your final RR = no go

  • Wondering how you feel about me singing up for an Olympic Tri on 6/28.

I am also signed up for Am Zof on 5/24, NYC Olympic on 7/19. My main event this year is IM Chatanooga on 9/27.

It is also the case I am on a vacation from 7/2 to 7/12 where I will have limited ability to train (maybe an hour a day of swim or run and likely no bike)

  • Rich,

Thanks for the reply. At what point  (how close to the event) does doing an Olympic get in the way of IM training?

Anything is good up until ~wk 13 of your TSR. Wks 14-18 become exponentially more valuable for IM training = not a good idea to race in that windo

  • As Chatanoga IM is 9/27, NY Tri I am registered for is 10 weeks earlier and this other Olympic being considered would be 12 weeks out.

You indicated these should be fine to do but is this at odds with your guidance about racing inside of 13 weeks of the IM?

    Thanks

Sorry, Wk13 of 20, so ~7weeks out from race day. Your two races, at 10 and 13wks out, are good.

  • Hey, about the load up an EN IM training plan. Hoping you can guide me on if I should load up the intermediate plan or the beginner plan.

As background, I am 51 years old, this is my first season with EN. In last 4 years I have done 5 half IMs, 2 middle distance Amzof (one last month) and 2 marathons.

I did complete the intermediate OS plan this winter. It got me much faster on run and bike but then the run speed work caught to up to and created some hip/hamstring issues that are now recovered.

In the last month I have been using as an outline the Get Faster plan where I did not notice to much difference between beginner and intermediate. Being nicer weather I ended up with far more miles on the bike than the plan called for.

    Thanks

Recommend you go with the Intermediate plan and then be prepared to dial that down if you need to. Good luck!

  • Thought you would say that. No easy way out of this!
