Help Me Choose: new wetsuit or new aero lid or ....

My pops gave me a gift card to all3sports.  It won't cover the full cost of a new wetsuit or aero helmet.  But, it'll put a good dent in the expense.

I'm lucky to have most of the needs and wants of the tri life.

But, my wetsuit is old.  QR full sleeve from about '08.  Still in good shape.  Only thing that has given is the velcro flap that holds the zip's pull cord.  That ripped off when I got out of the water in Wisconsin.  Not sure if I have to have that piece.  So, I was planning on using the suit until the neoprene starts ripping and there's no sign of that happening.

And, my aero lid is an oldie  but goodie.  Giro Advantage 2, probably 4 years old.  Long tail. Still in great shape.  Sheri just picked out a Giro Ionos roadie helmet that I can't wait to use but I'm def using some aero lid for my races.

I could use it on another pair of running shoes, I suppose.  My long run shoes are starting to show some wear, been running in them since November (?).  My short run shoes (NB 1600) only have about 50 miles on them.

And, if you have another idea, please share.

Thanks,

C

  • So when i get gift cards and I am not sure what to buy with them... I buy fuel. Drink mix and gels. It is required and we all spend a boat load on them... So stock up.
  • Easy...get a new wetsuit. If you can test several then even better. There is a thread on ST on the results of helmet testing at the aero camp at the LA velodrome. The old school Giro Advantage 2 tested second best of all helmets. The camp noted that NO helmet was the best on every person at camp. Buying an aero helmet without testing is a gamble. You reduce the gamble buying a lid that had good results on most people and you have one of those helmets.

  • I tend to wear socks and gloves pretty hard and I'm kinda picky. With my holiday cards I got socks, gloves, shoe covers, under-the-helmet thingy, rain ponchos, head light etc.
