Help, new toy not playing well. Edge 500?
I can't get my new Edge 500 to upload data to Garmin Training Center and therefore can't export it into a file that can be read by poweragent either. Garmin Connect shows little data of value so would like to get it into another program, preferably Poweragent. I'm not a WKO user and the device agent for mac computers isn't listed as supporting the Edge 500 yet anyway.
Second question, can the head unit be set up to display zeros or does it need to? I turned the include zeros in average feature on so the average won't be screwy anymore but wonder about the utility of displaying zeros in current. I have it set to display the 3s, is that what other people are using or the true current or the 30s displays? The little yellow whip was so easy to figure out because it was pretty basic. Maybe I should plan on using that rather than the Edge this weekend at the little jaunt around southern Utah.
Thanks in advance. The manual and support section of the website are only one step above useless and I truly made an effort and searched the EN(and slowtwitch) forums.

The Edge 500 when plugged via USB in to your Mac will show up as a Hard Drive. In that drive there will be a folder called GARMIN, in that folder will be a folder called HISTORY. Inside the HISTORY folder will be all of your rides. You can simply drag and drop the .TCX files from your HISTORY folder to a new folder on your Mac, then open that file in Power Agent/WKO+/GTC etc.
As far as that ride in Utah, go with what you rehearsed with, the LYC. You can have both running at the same time, they wont interfere with each other, but you know the LYC, and with EN, you do not get to play with new toys on race day

The pro and con of the edge 500 is that it stores files as .fit files. This is good as the files are much smaller and you can store a TON of data on it. I have every ride I have done since December saved and am only using 10% of the memory. The downfall is the .fit file cannot be read by other programs so you need to use GTC to convert it to a .tcx first.
I am a PC user but I had to update to the latest GTC from their website to get the edge to download. Once I did that GTC worked great. From GTC you can export the file and import it to WKO, power agent (not sure why you would want to use PA if you don't have to), sport tracks, race day, or any of the other program you want.
Also, there is also a new training peaks device agent that was released April 1st. For it to work you have to completely uninstall the old verison, and then install the version. Now that I have it direct download to WKO 3.0 works great...but again this is all on a PC.
It's completely up to you if you want to include zeros or not, the data you download will be the same either way it just changes what you see on the display. The same is true with the power display. I personally am not used to the actual power with no averaging. For doing interval work I have both actual power and lap average showing on the same screen which makes it easy to make sure I'm going to hit my target.
Thanks for suggestions so far.

I apologize for giving you wrong information. I thought the 500 was the same as the 750 or the 310xt with TCX files. I did not realize that garmin moved to solely using the proprietary .fit file format with the edge 500. Hopefully they'll soon publish the .fit spec publicly. FWIW - the GTC on my OS X machine is v 3.0.4
