I dont understand the strides workouts - is it just an all out sprint for 20 sec? Am I supposed to count specific number of strikes per foot?
Here you go, strides are very valuable. For me, I just run quickly (not a sprint) with good form, high cadence and count ~45-47 left foot strikes, as the idea of a Stride is to do it for about 30 secs. I generally run at 93-94rpm when I'm doing Strides so rather than running for 30secs (and looking at watch) I just count 45-47 foot strikes.
Additionally, I'll often do a "cadence check" during my runs. Glance at my watch to note the seconds then counting about 90-93 footstrikes. Look back at my watch to confirm it took me about a minute to get these in. This focus on form during Strides and these cadence check exercises then translates into a nearly constant focus/awareness of my running form.
